They are both really great medical centers! I personally have not heard any bad,,,, best of luck to you and the baby!
I just found out my OB works out of both Medical Center McKinney and Centennial. Now that I know I may have a choice, which one would you deliver at? I want to hear good and bad about both. Thank you!! :-)
Ladies, Thank you so much for your replies! I asked my OB which one she would deliver at and she has actually had both her kids at Medical Center of McKinney. She also is more familiar with the nurses there than the ones at Centennial who are newer. So that is good enough for me! Thank you again ladies for sharing your experiences! :-)

Hi S.,
I delivered my first two at Medical Center in McKinney. My last I delivered at Centennial. (perhaps we have the same doc?!) I would not go back to McKinney if you paid me. I had a horrrrrrible experience the second go around and the first time wasn't great either. It wasn't until our 3rd that I had an option to go somewhere else. My night nurse and day nurse didn't get along so they used me to get nasty with each other. I had to have 2 blood transfusions (not their fault) but one of them left a bunch of air in the line so that the other one would have to do an emergency sort of reline thing. The guy who gave me my epidural did it wrong (3x) and I wound up with a spinal headache. Long after, we got bills (incorrect bills) from him saying he was going to send us to claims. They had to 'stick' me when I was admitted for the IV at least twice in each arm. The nurses who helped me deliver were awesome though.
Centennial, the nurses were all really great. The phlebotomists knew how to find a vein (which sticks up prominantly) with ease. I never had a headache aferward (from the epidural or billing!). The only thing I wish were different about Centennial is that it feels less "homey". There's no carpet anywhere...it's lenolium. Just feels a bit cold. But I'd take that any day in exchange for good nurses.
I delivered my daughter at Medical Center of McKinney just five months ago and I truly believe that they saved her life! When she was born, she did not breathe for SIX MINUTES, but the chief of pediatrics, Dr. Jan (I don't think I spelled that right, but that's how it is pronounced) was on campus at the time and he rushed in and intubated and got her lung inflated. She is totally healthy today - no problems whatsoever! I think if he hadn't been there, she may have died. She spent 5 days in NICU and the nurses were absolutely excellent!!! I cannot stress enough how caring all of the nurses were, especially the labor and delivery nurses; I was in labor 27 hours so I saw several nurses. Amy was the one with me when I finally delivered and she was as knowledgeable as any doctor I know; she saved me from having to have a C-section, which the doctors were beginning to hint at. Every time I drive by that hospital, I say a little "thank you" to the excellent nurses and doctors. I would recommend MCM to anyone. One more thing, one of the nurses in NICU even offered me the use of her own pump from home if I could not find a pump to rent by the time my daughter was discharged. This is how caring these ladies and men are!
Well, I liked the medical center of McKinney! I delivered two babies there, now 5 and 2 years old. I will say that the first time with my DD 5 years ago, I didn't feel like the nurses were very knowledgeable about breastfeeding, but everything else was great. The rooms felt homey, the nurses were very friendly and helpful, and it was a great experience. With my DS 2 years ago, they have a MUCH better breastfeeding program in place. The nurses are knowledgeable, and they also have lactation consultants on staff who were a great help. The breastfeeding support was the only reservation I had going back, and now I would have no reservations going back with a third child. I had c-sections both times, and with my son they let him stay with us from birth for a couple of hours before taking him to the nursery for a bath and everything, which was great bonding time.
Even if you aren't thinking of breastfeeding, I think this is a great place to deliver a baby. At least it was from both my experiences.
I delivered at Centennial twice in 2006 and 2008 and I LOVE them!!! I heard bad things about McKinney and refused to go there! But I had a wonderful experience with Centennial with my 1st son, no problems and the nurses were wonderful! In 2008 when my 2nd son was born he came out purple and not breathing...it was so scary and I was super impressed at how fast the NICU doctor was there. It was almost like he magically appeared and then my son FINALLY took his first breath! Other than that minor scare it was a wonderful experience both times!
I delivered at Centennial and LOVED it. It is so clean and the nurses/staff were great. My son ended up in the ICU and they were SO excellent with him.
Good luck!
I delivered both of my kids (6 and 2) at Medical Center of McKinney. Great experiences with both.
Hi S.,
You have lots of great comments, I just wanted to add my two cents. I have three (4, 2, and 10 months) children, each born at Medical Center. I had heard awful things about the hospital, but I was pleased. First two labors were at night, the ER staff was great and got me right up to the L&D. The third was a holiday and the staff couldn't be more pleasant. The NICU, L&D, and Postpartum nurses were all friendly and knowledgeable.
Good luck and congrats.
I've delivered (c-section) 2 babies at Med. Ctr. McKinney almost 6 and 5 years ago. We had good experiences both times. I have no experience at Centennial to compare it to, but I really liked McKinney.
Centennail!! I have been in both emergency rooms and there is no comparison. Also, my husband is on the transport team for Children's Medical Center so he knows which hospitals know their stuff and which don't. Medical Center of McKinney gets low marks from him regarding their pediatric knowledge.
I had a great experience at Medical Center of McKinney back in January 2007. The nursing staff is so friendly, and it was a relatively quiet atmosphere. If I was to have another child (which I won't be!) I would definitely go there again! I delivered VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section) which was wholly supported . . . it has only been recently that I discovered how unusual an attitude this is. A majority of doctors and hospitals refuse to allow VBACs. And there was a lactation specialist who came in and spent time with me and my new baby girl, which I appreciated even though I had breastfeeding experience with my two older children.
I recommend you take a tour of each facility now. I did it with McKinney and it was great to know in advance the "lay of the land" and their standard procedures.
I delivered my second at Medical Center McKinney...great experience...great nursing staff...would use again. No complaints.
I had the same choice, and after some research I had found many more horror stories from Centennial, so I went with Mckinney Med. I had a very good experience there, great staff, and whenever I needed anything they were right there on it.
