Anyone own a Mazda 5? How do you like it? Pros/Cons. Would you recommend one? And nosy question, if you don't mind, how much do they cost? I have never shopped for a car before. Always got hand-me-downs.

What can I do next?

I have a Mazda5 and really like it. Yes, it has some things that I would change but what doesn't? We are a family of three and it works really well for us. I love the sliding doors and the ability to lay all the seats down. I had a Protege before and it is very similar to drive.

I have the Mazda6. I love it. It gets great gas mileage and has the quietest, smoothest ride. I test drove Nissans and Altimas 1st. The ride inthe Masda was noticeably better. Even my daughter remarked and asked if it was an electric car because it was so quiet. I haven't found the tires or maintenance to be any more exp3ensive than any other. My tires are not the standard size - like a half in differant, but the standard size fit perfectly. Brand new around $100 each. I have almost 90k miles and nothing (knock on wood) has broken. Just routine oil changes and replaced one set of windshiled wipers. Almost time for new brakes. I think it is dependable, economical, very zippy with lots of get up and go, and has a nice, soft ride. I feel safe in it. I would definately buy another.

I have a new 2012 Mazda 5 & I love it. I've had it since the end of Sept. & we are a family of 5 & it fits us very well. I went from a huge Town & Country to the Mazda because of gas mileage and my personal preference of driving a smaller car. I have had an adult in the 3rd row for a 40 min trip & she didn't mind. Also, I have 3 car seats in it no problem. It coud take 4, really. My only complaint is the trunk area is tight- i can only fit my Maclaren stroller back there. If all the seats are not occupied, it's awesome that they fold down & there's plenty of room that way. I am 6 ft and have a difficult time with seats adjustments, but have.lots of leg room and feel the front to be very comfy. It is a very quiet running car but since I still have a warranty, I can't speak to repair costs yet. I have the basic model and paid around $19000, but it is a 2012.

Had one a few years ago
Pros:
Fun to drive
Felt good about it getting good gas milage
If you need to haul something, like IKEA furniture, or, in my case, a HUGE snow blower that I picked up from Sears, the 3rd row and middle seats fold all the way down, so you can really put a lot into it

Cons:
Not that great in the snow/ice. I never spun our or anything, but sometimes had trouble starting from a stop in an icy intersection.
Not very practical if you actually need to put an adult into the 3rd row--OUCH!!!
Can only accomodate 2 carseats--we needed 3, so we switched to a VW Routan when I was pregnant with baby #3.

ETA: We had the higher end model, the Grand Touring, and, brand new, it was about $22k.

We got ours from the Autobarn Mazda dealer in Countryside.
