Hi Moms -
I just bought my son a new mattress and need advice regarding a mattress cover. His allergist recommended a specific brand, but it is much more expensive than others I've seen. Anyone seen a real differnce between the brand of mattress cover (and pillow cover) used and allergic symptoms?

The allergist recommended "National Allergy BedCare Classic."

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My allergist does not subscribe to the whole dust mite cover theory. He says that you are not allergic to the dust mites but their feces which are EVERYWHERE...in your carpeting, on your drapery, etc. Therefore a dust mite cover does nothing to alleviate the allergy. Just something to consider.

for myself and my son - we use the Claritin allergy covers.

They need to be replaced about once a year...but it does make a difference in our allergies

if you would let us know what brand your doctor recommended to you, you might have more responses from people with experience with that brand.

GOOD LUCK!!!

My husband works for a major mattress company and he said go into a mattress store(firm:) ) and ask them. They have some that encase the whole bed. He said they can be pricey as well though.
