Hi A.,
Congratulations! My advice. And depending on how far along you are. But buy empire wasted normal shirts that are trendy. Maybe by one size smaller. Plato's Closet is a consignment in Kansas and in Lee's Summit. They'll have some trendy clothes. They're not maternity, but you could find the empire waste shirts. Also...I hated maternity jeans, so I just kept buying jeans that were low wasted but regular jeans and they fit under my belly. I was a size 3, then to 5, 7, 9, 11 at 9 mos. Some jeans are stretchier, but still at least the normal trend and not so frumpy. Plato's has lots of jean all easily to find in sizes. I've bought some for as cheap as $7 or $10. Some of the name brand stuff is more, but not horribly. After I had my daughter (4yrs) I just gave the jeans to friends that were that size. I found Plato's after I lost my baby weight and throught I'd never get back to normal size...I gave all my small jeans away. So to save money, I went there to replenish my wardrobe without spending and arm and leg.
If the empire waist shirts were a little short meaning I was afraid my belly would catch a draft, I'd wear one of those spaghetti strap tanks that easily stretch and now they make them really long. I'd tuck them into my jeans and wear the cute shirt over it.
Believe me, I wanted to look cute pregnant, but was all about quantity of clothes verse quality. Especially when you only wear them for so long.
Best wishes!!!
J.
