Hello fellow Mommies,
I ended up getting mastitis last Friday night and was put on an antibiotic Saturday morning. I thought everything was healing very well, however I'm having pain in my nipples while nursing and sensitivity the rest of the time. Is this normal? How long will it take things to stop hurting? Any suggestions on how to minimize the pain? My baby is a rough nurser anyway and this is killing me.
Thanks for any help,
S. G.

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies!
I guess it was thrush. My baby doesn't seem to have it though, so that's good. Unfortunately she has a cold, poor baby!
Well thanks for the help,
S. G.

Hi,
When I got mastitis while breast-feeding I had alot of discomfort for about a week. To help I placed warm, wet washcloths on my breasts before feeding for about 15 minutes. This helped release the milk and make the flow eaiser so he didnt suck as hard. My doctor also recommended emptying the breast as much as possible either by feeding or pumping because it helps bacteria from collecting which hopefully will shorten the healing process. I hope this helps.

You poor thing. Mastitis is the worst. The funny thing is I don't remember how painful my labor pains were but I remember the toe curling pain of having mastitis with my first child. I got it about five days after he was born and was put on antibiotics for about 20 days. After the 20 days I still had sharp shooting pains in both breasts and had some bloodwork done to see if the infection was still there. Fortunely the infection was gone but the pain didn't subside for a couple more weeks. I tried using warm compresses while is a hot shower and that helped with some relief.

Good luck I know that is isnt fun dealing with such a painful infection. Hang in there Girl.

did they mention anything about thrush? sometimes you can develop yeast after getting antibiotics. talk to your doctor about it. there are many things that can be helpful for that.
