Mass Outside Uterus?

I went to the GYN today because I have been on a period for over 3 weeks. He ordered a sonogram to check to see why I could be bleeding like this. I have PCOS, and have had abnormal periods often, but nothing like a 3 week period. Anyways, my uterus looked fine, inside, lining was right, no polyps, nothing. But, the sonographer did find a large mass outside the uterus. Dr. said the sonographer said, maybe the bowel attached to the uterus. He doesnt know for sure what it is. He says he is concerned, but not worried. He said come back in 1 month for a re-exam, and MAYBE another sonogram. I am extremly worried about it. Even if it is what they said, its not normal! I have scheduled an appt with my primary dr scheduled for this wednesday. I am just wondering if anyone has ever had anything like this, and what it was, and what was the outcome. Thanks!

EDIT TO POST***
I am not pregnant. I have had an ectopic pregnancy, and had my fallopian tube removed. I have googled it, and I am not liking what I am seeing....There is absolutley nothing in my uterus that would cause bleeding. He said he was looking for fibroids, or polyps, but ofund nothing..... Thanks to everyone who has responded!!!!

RUN to another OBGYN asap. Please do not wait another month. The same thing happened to me and after the sonogram showed a mass, I had a hysterectomy three days later. My bowel had become attached to my tubes and uterus and I had a benign cyst. Glad you are going to your primary care doctor. Trust your instincts and find another OBGYN. You may not need a hysterectomy (don't want to scare you), but it needs to be checked asap. Let us known what happens.

Hi C.,
Did the Dr say anything about fibroids? The reason I ask is because they can cause excessive bleeding and they can grow inside as well as outside the uterus. I have them and was actually pregnant with one that grew really large due to the hormones. I would see what your primary says...maybe mention it to him and see what he says. Unfortunately they may want to do a vaginal sono - did your gyno do that? If not - mention it to the primary. They are not too much cause for concern unless they cause you pain or in your case excessive bleeding. They are just benign growths and if the bleeding doesnt stop or bothers you then you can have them removed (i had one taken out during delivery). They can also put you on the pill to help control the bleeding. I hope it is something simple as fibroids. Look up the other symptoms and see if any apply to you - other than that - i wouldnt look up your symptoms on the internet....Im with the other person who posted about that - you will give yourself all kinds of anxiety. Good luck!

In Dec 2007 I was scheduled for a partial hysterectomy(uterus removal) due to so many problems I've had in the past like excessive bleeding, actually 6 months in puddles after I had my youngest in 2005, Endometriosis.
When the surgery took place they found that my uterus was attached to my intestines, bowels and navel. I would have a second opinion for sure. What happened to me could be what is happening to you. I would Not wait until a month passes by to re-exam or another sonogram. I would def check it out asap.
Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

If it were me I'd find another gyn immediately. Ask your primary for a referral to another doc. Have your primary's office call to get you an appointment. Usually you can get in faster if the doctor's office is calling to make you an appointment. I couldn't begin to tell you what might be going on but having worked in healthcare for a number of years, I can tell you that you're care is not being properly managed.

I didn't have this particular situation, but I did have a health situation almost 2 years ago in which I was told the same thing, "I am concerned but not worried". Actually, when I went to my OB/GYN, he said he wasn't concerned at all and to come back in a week to see if there were any changes.

You did exactly like me - the next day, I was at my Family Practitioner following my gut instincts that something wasn't right.

I'll suspend letting you know what was wrong with me because I don't want to concern you needlessly. But, follow your instincts, stay off the internet (because it will give you SO much anxiety) and press on until you find out exactly what it going on.

All my best! I hope there's no concern.

Hi! I usually love sending an answer when I have some insight. Wow. Sometimes I just pray for help to write what will help. I do know from some of my studies that a baby can live and grow outside the uterus and the placenta can attach to another part of the body. Please find a doctor you really trust, and you might want to go a one like at Mayo Clinic. If you are pregnant, God bless you and the baby. They would want you to live near the clinic during the pregnancy to help you and guide you.
