My son has his learners permit and need to take the Drivers Course to get his license in August. This is my first time dealing with teenage drivers licenses in Georgia. Has any one had good or bad experiences with driving schools in the area in terms of schedule flexibility, cost, etc. What successes have you had in getting the best cost insurance when you have two teenagers on your insurance?

My second son just got his permit. I shopped around when the first started driving and found the best rate for us through Allstate. I had to leave the company I had been with since I was 16 years old to afford to get him covered. I chose Allstate's platinum service which is a bit higher but allows one "accident forgiveness" without having premiums increased. They also offer an advanced drivers course (to compliment the usual)called ADEPT. It costs around 89.00 but when completed, offers an additional discount in the premium for adding your son to the policy. I combined my auto and homeowners to get a multi-policy discount and then received the driver's ed and the ADEPT discount as well. In addition to that they apply an annual discount for every year of safe driving. Call Natalie ###-###-####.
As for basic drivers ed, if you can afford the initial outlay, find a private school that offers simulators. It is so worth the money and will allow your son to be trained to react to emergancy manuvers that he hopefully will never have to use in real life. The difference in cost from the 300.00 you pay to the public school program will be tax deductible. Talk to your CPA about this.
One you are confident of his driving skills and good judgement, you will enjoy having someone share the driving responsibilities.

Your son has cleared the first hurdle, getting his learner's permit. I have an 18 yo son,who struggled just to pass the multiple choice test! He did get his permit after he had gone thru the classroom portion of a course with Taggart's Driving School, ###-###-####. They are based in Tucker, but have other locations. For the driving portion my son's instructor was able to meet him both at my son's school, and in front of our house. As for insurance, we bought a veryused Volvo sedan, definitly NOT a chic magnet car, and insured it only for injury and liablity; if the car gets wrecked any repair would have to come out of pocket, but medical would be covered as well as any damage that was ruled to be his fault. This elliminated insurance being spread out over our other cars, which bumped up the premium quite a bit!
