Making Shoes/boots Fit

High arches, narrow heels, muscular calves ... my husband buys more shoes than I do, 'cause I find it so frustrating.

I'm hoping winter is over and I won't need this answer for a while, but...
I finally found a pair of winter boots that I love, but although I couldn't get a smaller size on, these are apparently too big for me. I added a pair of thick cushiony insoles, but my feet still seem to slide around a little bit, scrunching my socks down inside very uncomfortably and just about giving me blisters in the outside of my pinky- and big-toes. If I add an extra pair of socks my feet get too hot and sweaty. I've always worn cotton for comfort; If I wear thinner, slippery socks, will they not bunch up? Would that cause more rubbing and blistering? Any hints on how to get a better fit without constricting my feet or overheating? TIA!

What can I do next?

I have never been able to find boots that are tall (knee high) that will fit my calves till this year! I got my boots from a company in the UK that sells boots that are made in different widths for different calf sizes (both small and large). They cost more that I normally would have paid for boots, but they were well worth it!. www.duoboots.com Good luck!

I'm not sure what is available there for sure, but I know here they have the ability to make insoles that are shaped to your feet (they warm up a pair of special insoles and then mold them after your feet). Here you can buy them at a sports store that sells athletic shoes. Or try a place where they sell hiking boots specialty stores. There might be a place that does that there. I have problems with shoes as well, I got a pair of these molded insoles and it's heaven. They are pretty expensive but you can move them from shoe to shoe. I bought 2 pairs and use them in all of my shoes except for dress shoes. I hope you can find something like that there they are really helpful.

I just got some custom made orthotics. If you have your doctor send you up to that department in the Marshfield clinic, they will make a mold of your foot and make you some inserts that match your foot perfectly. I got some for a tendon injury that I have and it has made a huge improvement.

I have the exact same problem. High arch, narrow heal but wide in the toe area. Boots are horrible most uncomfortable thing in the world.

As far as shoes go I've had really really good luck with New Balance.

I highly recommend checking at Schuler Shoes in Har Mar Mall (in Roseville). The last time I went there, I walked in, told the person working there that I didn't want to look at shoes, I just wanted him to bring me 5 different pairs of shoes that I could wear to work in my size that would work well for high arches, narrow heels, and wide toes. Off he went and brought me back the most wonderful shoes. I bought three different pairs of shoes that day (almost 2 years ago), which I still wear all the time, and they are the most comfortable shoes possible. I don't think they have boots there, but I'm sure they will have some great ideas for fixing your boot problem!
Good luck!

Good wool socks are the most breathable while keeping your feet warm. They aren't cheap though, but will last forever. Check out REI for a good pair.

I can't help you with the "better fit" thing, because I, too, have 'unfittable' calves, and can't wear many boots at all.

However, I may be able to help you with the "hot feet" thing and socks. Last year, I found Smartwool socks. These are not your regular, itchy, yukky, too-hot-my-feet-sweat-buckets, have-to-wear-those-stupid-sock-liners wool socks. These are made in fun colors, are SOFT, and made in several different weights, including ones that I wear for every day. I wore them all winter. My feet were mosty-toasty, and I never had a problem with sweat. You can find them at http://www.smartwool.com, or some outdoor stores/outfitters, like Gander Mountain. Good luck.

Try Feetures socks they are wonderful!!

They come in different thicknesses, I use the thinnest. They are made of Lycra and nylon and contour to the shape of your foot. They are also seamless at the toe which is good for me because with cotton socks I used to put a hole through the toe within weeks of wearing them. I have been training for the 3 Day Breast Cancer walk and have had no issues with bunching, rubbing, or blistering. The sock wicks away moisture which allows your feet to keep cool...something a cotton sock does not do! They are a little spendy but worth it because they last! I found mine at the Marathon Sports store in Minneapolis (sold for about $8.00), you might also be able to find them at other shoe/sport stores. If not Google Feetures to find a good price.

Also, if you want your feet fitted with a good shoe I recommend going to Marathon Sports. I have very flat feet (duck feet!) and they fitted with me with a shoe perfect for me! Their staff is great, they really take the time to look at your feet and your issues! They fit a lot of people for marathons and other events.

use halters and heel pads they are with the insoles at most stores you can get boots stretched in the calf too and the arch area too so if they fit elsewhere and tight in the calf and arch have them streched in just those spots

Try MASON SHOES IN Chippewa Falls wi. They have a web site.
They carry hard to find sizes. My problem is I wear size 4-4.5. I am 65 yrs old. I've gotten both shoes & boots from them. And they are resonably priced.
