We are having my sons birthday party in a couple weeks and I thought since the party will include parents it would be nice to serve a pasta dish along side the pizza and other accompaniments. Do any of you mommas have a baked ziti recipe (or other pasta dish) that can be made a day in advance and then baked right before party? Worried about the pasta becoming mushy..... Thanks in advance.

I make a cheesy ziti recipe that is fantastic and I have frozen it before. I use 1 can of Spaghetti Sauce, 1 can of Alfredo pasta sauce, a box of ziti noodles, a can of italian breadcrumbs, and any of the italian cheeses you would like in it (I use grated parmesan, mozzarella, ricotta, and anything else that sounds good). Put both cans of sauce in a pan, add the cheeses, i put a little italian seasoning, a little garlic powder and salt, and a dash of oregano. Cook it till boiling then just let it simmer. Cook your noodles. Then in a bowl mix it all together (noodles and sauce). In a separate bowl, pour the amount of italian breadcrumbs you want to top the pasta off, mix about a teaspoon to tablespoon of olive oil and about a 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese all together. Pour the noodles and sauce mixture in your baking dish, then top it off with the breadcrumb mixture, cover and bake for about 10 minutes then once cooled off throw in the freezer. Once you thaw it out to cook, i would say cook it at 350 until warm all the way through. Good luck with whatever you decide!

This is our favorite ziti recipe. It makes quite a bit. I always put it together the day before. Always...just cook the noodles slightly aldente, just a little tougher than if you were going to eat it right then. They will soften a bit by absorbing the sauce. Then the day of the party I just throw it in the over before quests come over. It is always a hit and it always turns out great!

this is the one I always use, you can make it the day before just make sure it is well covered with foil or it will dry out.

1 box ziti pasta cooked
2 cans speg. sauce
12 slices provolone cheese
1 bag mozarella cheese
1 lg container cottage cheese
1 pd sausage
1 green pepper (optional)

cook sausage and pepper till sausage is no longer pink, add sauce. butter a 11x13 baking dish. add half of the ziti, then half of sauce mixture. next layerhalf cottage cheese then six slices provolne then half mozarella cheese. repeat with remaining ingrediants. bake at 425 till cheese is gooey on top (about 25 min)

Well to help even more Cosco has a terrific chicken alfredo that all you have to do is throw in the oven. It was under 20 bucks and could feed at least 15 people. Check it out it will save you time and a headache.

MIL's recipe. Ziti noodles (partially cooked), veggies, 3 cups of sauce, diced spicy sausage and pepperoni, and provolone cheese. Layer the noodles, veggies, sauce, and meat into a cake pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Put on counter and add cheese. Serve.

She makes this a couple of days in advance for parties and pops it in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes and then adds the cheese. Microwaves well too.

all the other posters put in great recipes. if you or any of the guests are interested in a healthier dish, add some whole wheat ziti pasta and cut veggies (eggplant, carrots, onions, brocolli, frozen spinach, etc). You could blanch the cut carrots and brocolli a few minutes towards the end of your boiling pasta.
