So I heard that after you have a baby you may experience some hair loss. Well, when does it stop? My love is 20 weeks old and I am balding! My hair has become so thin on top you can see my scalp! I fear a comb-over (ha!)! Can anyone help me before I research plugs?

What can I do next?

I think the shampoo that has been suggested is by Nioxin and it's for thinning hair. You can pick it up at a hair salon and I think even the Wal-Mart hair places carry it.

Increase protein, as well as start taking a B-complex vitamin. You may also want to have your thyroid checked, because this can be such a common problem after giving birth. My husband used to say we could make/sell wigs with all of the hair I was losing after giving birth (4X!). My thyroid was within normal ranges, but I started on a thyroid boosting supplement (from the healthfood store), protein, and b-complex and it made all the difference!

Arbonne has a hair loss cream that is absolutely wonderful. It is a natural product that could really help and it may be worth a try before going towards plugs. www.hollywyers.myarbonne.com

I had soo much hair on my body when I was pregnant I nicknamed myself "wolfwoman", but it did go away after childbirth. Thank god! I did lose a lot of hair that grew in unwanted places. But you might want to call the Doc and just talk to them about it. We are all so different. After my son was about 4-5 months I guess I was done shedding.
Good Luck!

I had a huge amt. of hair loss after my 1st child was born.
I looked like I had a big receding hairline.
It's the drop in hormone levels that does this.

Here is what I did and it worked.
I used these products from Arbonne Int'l:

1. Thermal Fusion for hair (helps regrow hair)
2. Shampoo & Conditioner - has a DHT (di-hydroxy-testosterone) blocker that helps prevent further hairloss
3. Prolief Balancing cream - for the hormone drop.

If you are are already acquainted with Arbonne and have an Arbonne consultant, that person can help you get these items.

If you don't already have a connection, I am a consultant and will be happy to serve you.
I am offering my clients 35% to 85% discounts.

Let me know if I can serve you.

This is completely normal, and it will stop. I experienced this with my son, and now I feel your pain (again). My daughter is almost six months old and everytime I wash my hair, I get clumps that are just coming out. My temple area is so thin now. Your body stops shedding hair during pregnancy - but it starts again after. I think that combined with the change in hormones causes this. But, once again, this is totally normal, and it will stop. Hope this helps.

I went through the same thing in the past with each pregnancy. I initially thought I had cancer or something b/c of all the hair loss - then looked it up and found out it was normal. Our drains were constantly getting clogged up. If I remember correctly, I think it slowed up around 5-6 months later. Are you still taking the prenatal vitamins? Someone told me that would help.

If you have not had your thyroid checked, you might do that.
Hypothroidism causes hair loss, along with stress, you just had a baby it may be a horomone thing. Good luck. C. Jackson

Increased protein will make all the difference! If you are a coffee drinker I put mine in it in the morning (I like Cocca-Mochachino sp?) I also take a multivitamin and biotin (which helps for hair and nails, you'll love it) Now if you don't like coffee you can get protein lots of ways read your labels, tuna and other fish poducts are great, there are protein bars but you need to watch the carbs and calories. Low fat mozzarella cheese sticks, yogart etc. I shoot for about 80 grams of protein a day. Good luck! ~K.

this happened to me also. my hairdresser recommended a tremendous increase in protein and it worked. i ate lots of cottage cheese and string cheese, they seemed to have the most protein with least fat grams and calories. now i have a bunch of 1 inch hairs that stick up everywhere (some grey!) but that's ok! it at least covers what used to look so thin. best wishes!

The extreme hair loss stopped after about 6 months. I still have hair loss to this day, twins are turning 5 next week. Not sure what is causing it but I have had my thyroid checked and it came back normal. Good luck figuring out what is causing it.

Hi M.!
I dealt with this to a lesser extent, but my sister after all three of her babies were born, lost a lot of hair. My understanding is that it is hormonal and should subside, but it may take a long time. My sister also got a special shampoo from her hairdresser and I can't think of the name of it! I don't know if it helped with the hair loss, or if it just made what she had left just seem thicker and fuller.
I would encourage you to talk to your dr. and also talk to an experienced hairdresser- someone who has been in the business a long time.
God Bless!

I had the same problem about 3-4 months after delivery. With most people the hair loss goes away with time. If I remember correctly the cause is the loss of hormones we experience after delivery. When we are pregnant our bodies have a way of overproducing certain things like hair and nails. Part of this is due to the pre-natal vitamins but another part is our hormones. When we deliver our hormone levels drop significantly but our bodies take a few months to catch up. That's just my own personal experience. I am not a health professional.

M., from my past experience and research you are low of progesterone. I suggest that you get a natural hormone cream which will make a world of difference. You can get Dr John Lee's book which explain about progesterone called "What your doctor may not tell you about Premenopause:. The company that I am affiliated with called Arbonne has one called Prolief. We also have 3 hair care products that will promote hair growth. You can check out my website at www.successfromtheheart.myarbonne.com or give me a call ###-###-####. Thanks, K.

Check out this website to see if these symptoms apply to you as well, it was a lifesaver for me and my little girl. As soon as I cured the infection, my hair started growing back in faster than it was falling out :}

mine never got that thin, but my youngest is 19 months and it seems it's still falling out! Maybe not ALL the time, but certain times of the month. I remember hearing about something called Nioxin for thinning hair you can get at a salon, but never tried it. I guess those hormones take a while to get back to normal....good luck!

I had this exact problem with our last (#9)baby. Some hairloss is normal for about 6 months after birth, but mine continues and got to where I was cutting my hair short and wearing hats and scarves. I finally went to my naturopath doctor who diagnosed me with an over active thyroid. For whatever reason, some of my hormones still thought I was pregnant! She changed my diet (no broccoli or cauliflower) I had been taking a "barley green" type suppliment which is normally great for most people but awful for me. She also put me on some very good vitamin and herbal supplements. Within three months, my hair stopped falling out and I could see new growth in the bald patches. It took a year before my hair looked normal again, But once it was regulated, I could eat anything again and am "back to normal"!
