Does anyone know the recipe for what the pediatricians perscribe for diaper rashes. I believe it's called "magic butt cream." Please help! My girlfriends baby has a really bad diaper rash and it's the weekend so we were hoping we could cook something up to help her little bottom. :(
My daughter used to get it really bad and they told us soda baths - baking soda in cool water at least daily for 10-15 min at a time. The couple of times that it actually started bleeding, they told us antibotic cream to heal and then Destin (or something like) to protect it from wetness (you layer them Destin on top of the antibotic). Change the diaper frequently to keep them dry.
There were a few times when it wasn't just a diaper rash - the above didn't clear it up, helped but didn't clear it - and he had to prescribe a medicated cream.
Good luck - these kind of nasty diaper rashes aren't fun.

Don't wait, go to the pharmacy and buy a tube of A&D ointment. It gives instant relief of discomfort and will heal the diaper rash. I also used Desitine ointment. I never heard of making anything myself.

I "think" the recipe is equal parts hydrocortisone & triple anti-biotic ointment, BUT the magic treatment for me has been a product called Calmoseptine, it is not presription but you will likely have to ask the pharmacist for since they usually keep it behind the counter. Sometimes you can find it at costco. Also don't use wipes unless you completely rinse them, even the ones that say "free" on them. As you can tell i have been through this... good luck!

There's a cream you can buy called Boudreaux's butt paste, it's at Wal*Mart and it works really well but it's super thick so if the baby is young you may want to stick to something easier to apply/remove such as Desitin. The other secret trick my pediatrician gave me is to buy non-flavored, plain Maalox or generic liquid antacid and put it in a spray bottle and spray the baby's diapers. You let them dry then use them on the baby. The antacid neutralizes acid in the baby's #1 & #2 and helps them heal quicker.
Hope it helps!

I am an RN and NO PHARMACY makes or prescribes it; however, it consists of 1 part zinc oxide cream, 1 part any water barrier such as petroleum jelly and 1 part lidocaine 1% gel. Problem is, you need a prescription for the lidocaine gel (an anesthetic); so if you're not privy to a nursing home, hospital, etc where this stuff is abundant, good luck concocting the potion. Yep, magic all right-it REALLY does work!

When my kids were little, the dr. told us to use a mixture of desitin, lotrimin (atheletes foot), and hydrocortisone cream. We just kept a tube of each with the diapers, squirted somoe of each in the palm of our hand, mixed it, applied, and wiped the palm of our hand on the new diaper. It worked like a charm. After a while, we could tell when to use it and when to use just the desitin.
Hope this helps.

I don't have a butt cream recipe however I do have a great tip. One of the NICU RN's told me to only use soap and water on the bottom and to use a hair dryer on cool setting to dry the bottom after each diaper. The key is keeping the bottom dry as much as possible. I could not believe the difference this made. I had tried everything and this really worked for us. i agree with the other poster, if it's seeping tell your friend to take her in...
Hope that helps

If the baby's on antibiotics, it's probably a yeast infection. I remember my pediatrician ordering something that was a combination of like Desitin and Monistat. She could try putting both on, or even some hydrocortisone cream with Desitin or Balmex.

if its more of a severe rash that is in the diaper area it might be a fungal yeast inf. they will give you a prescription. but for the time being you can just use a over the counter monastat cream the same that you would use on yourself, usually about the second day you should notice it getting better, than u might not need the doc. Ive also herd to put a plain yogurt on the area and it will counter act the yeast rash.

Hi C.,
I don't know any magic cream, but I always tried leaving my girls undiapered for a while to allow the area to dry out. I know baby powder is a no-no these days (as it was when my kids were babies), but it always worked wonders when my girls had a horrible rash. I just tried to not let it get in the air too much so they did not breath it it. Corn starch works well, too.

Good Morning! We have always found that Calmoseptine works the best. It is at your local target, cvs pharmacy behind the counter. You do not need a prescription for it, but for some reason you have to ask the pharmacist for it. It has taken our children's worst diaper cream away in less than 24 hours. Lay it on thick to help it create a barrier between urine and her skin. Best of luck!

I believe it is diaper rash ointment, athletes foot cream and zinc oxide. The athlete's foot cream works great because it kills the bacteria. I hope this works for her. Also, tell her that once the rash is cleared up to coat the baby's butt with vaseline each time she changes the baby. This will serve as a waterproof base and resist any further rashes. Good luck! :)

I am not sure what is in what the doctors prescribe, but I know it's called Nystatin. You could always call the office in the morning if they are open or try and reach the on-call doctor so they can call in a prescription for it. One thing that I have used, and my parents did also, that works wonders is Vitamin E capsules. Just prick them with a needle or safety pin and squeeze it onto the rash. Good luck!

From what I understand the mixture consists of a prescribed creme and non prescribed creme. So that won't help. But my daughter reacted all the wipes I tried except for Pampers sensitive wipes. I couldn't even use the no name brand equivilent to it.
Try these:
1. Use wash clothes and warm water
2. Let air get to the area as much as possible
3. Bag Balm, original A&D ointment, etc
I hope I gave you some ideas to pass on to your friend.

If it is a normal diaper rash then use Zinc oxide ointment. If a yeast infection, and this works for us women also....... Yogurt! For babies apply a thin coating of plain yogurt to the sore areas and give them plenty of liquids to drink and naked time in the playpen does wonders. for us women it can be inserted just like monistat. Also if you eat yogurt it helps to keep your bacteria levels healthy.

Oh poor thing!
Troy Beaumont has an after hours pediatric center. If it doesn't get better with what the other ladies suggested (it only takes 1 application to tell, it doesn't immediatley get better but it stops spreading) than please bring the baby in. It is very easy for the skin to break down and then you have to deal with a possible secondary infection. If there are any spots weeping then don't wait!
Good Luck

Magic butt cream is 1/3 Mylanta (too cool it), 1/3 Desitin, and 1/3 Lotrimin. Lotrimin is athletes foot cream. Mix it all together and it is magical stuff. My doctor also said to wash the babies bottom with soap and water and dry it really well after each dirty diaper to make sure the "acidy" residue is completely off or the cream just traps the residue on the skin and it can still burn the skin.
Good luck. That is so miserable.

You may want to try Boudreaux's butt paste. When my kids were in diapers, I usually just used Desitin. Then my son got a rash that was almost to the point of open sores and Desitin wasn't helping at all. His pediatrician recommended Boudreaux's butt paste. Within a day, his rash was almost better and it only took another day to be gone completely. Here's a link so you can see what it looks like: http://www.buttpaste.com/BLButtPaste.php I haven't had to buy it for a while, but I believe Target carries it.

If you're an Amazon.com Prime subscriber ships quickly for free. About a $1 more than Walmart for a single tube but less if you order a 3-pack.

My girls all had sensitive skin. So, I make our butt cream.
1 oz. bees wax
1 cup almond oil or olive oil or apricot kernal oil or any kind you like.
You can use herb infused oil but it takes about 4 - 6 weeks to infuse an oil.
You can add essential oils such as tea tree oil. I don't. I want it SIMPLE.
Heat bees wax in a double boiler when it's melts add 1 cup oil. The bees wax will re-harden because of the cooler oil so just stir it until it remelts & combines.
Add essentail oils if you want to use them. Then, bottle it. I use the teeny tiny jars that you find in the canning area of walmart or any store that has canning supplies.
How this helps!
I do use corn starch. Very Nice.

Ingredients:
· 1 part Balmex (or generic equivalent)
· 1 part Ilex (over the counter cream but pharmacy will probably have to order it)
· 2 parts Vaseline (or generic equivalent
· ½ part Monistat cream (or generic equivalent)
Directions: Mix ingredients together in small disposable containers with a plastic fork. This keeps for a long time and it will heal a terrible diaper rash so quickly that you will also believe it is magic. Use a washcloth to remove cream if necessary.
FYI: Ilex is a non-prescription skin protection paste that you can get by calling a Kroger affiliated Pharmacy and asking them to order it; you can pick it up the next day. It is the magic part of this recipe, so no substitutes.
Example recipe: 2 oz Balmex, 2 oz ilex, 4 oz Vaseline, 1 oz Monistat.
Suggestion: I have a scale that weighs ounces and it makes this a very easy task

I have been doing daycare for 11 years and I also have 3 children of my own ages 13, 8, and 1. This is what I have always used and truly believe in. I have never thought desitin, balmex or any of those butt creams have worked it always seems to make it worse. I get it at walmart in the animal section like by the dog shampoos and things, its called Bag Balm its costs $7.43 in a green square can, made by vermonts original since 1899 it says on the can. Its actually used for cows but it works wonders!!! Just try it you can also use it for chapped lips, hands, skin, rashes, dry feet, not to be gross but mens jock itch. We swear by it and I have many daycare parents who now use it. But if it has turned into yeast infection like from being on an oral antibotic it may not work, it may be too late and will need nystatin which is only prescribed by a physician. My own children always got a yeast infection after being on an oral antibiotic so I would just start using the bag balm right away to prevent them from getting it and it worked everytime so good luck to you. You will have to let me know if it works.

Magic butt cream is equal parts
-Desitin (the thick original- not the creamy)
-Maylox (or store brand, mint flavor is more 'cooling' on baby's bottom)
-Lotramin AF (you have to make sure it is the anti fungal)
it may be kind of lumpy at first and may separate in between uses- but this stuff is the BEST. If your friend has good Rx coverage, her doc can call it in and the the pharmacy can make it for her- they use all the same ingred, except they use nystantin instead of the lotramin
Butt Paste is NOT the same thing- it may work for some, but it did NOT work for us- it made things WORSE for both of my boys.

Actually, Nystatin is a different treatment the drs prescribe which is an antifungal ointment for yeast infections (common with diaper rash). The Magic Butt Cream you are referring to is different from Nystatin. If you call your local pharmacy they will tell you how to make it. Our doc actually prescribed it for us and when the pharmacy received the prescription, they called us to tell us how to make it because it was going to cost around $70 if they did it, and it was easy enough for us to do. Unfortunately, we didn't do it so I can't tell you myself what the ingredients were. We had started using the Aveeno diaper cream and it worked wonders for us. We put a little cortisone ointment on first, then the Aveeno and it cleared up very nicely. But again, your local pharmacy (Rite Aid or Walgreens may be open late) should be able to tell you how to make it. Good luck!

You can find many different natural remedies, but even I hesitated due to ingredients and possible allergies. If you really have to resort to something other than petroleum jelly (it is a great barrier for moisture due to the wetness in the diaper and I am not a fan of this as I am allergic to it!) It helped my son in his WORST episodes of rashes along with the use of desiten ointment. Home aide creams, in my opinion will not hold up to the urine (acidic). If you find any that do work, best of luck! (If you make it, remember is has a shorter shelf life and should be refrigerated. I make a lot of natural butters and balms.)
