Lunch Ideas for 1 Year Old

What do/did you moms feed your one year olds? I am just looking for some new quick & easy ideas for my son. He has several teeth so chewing is not an issue for him. His favorites right now are mac & cheese, spaghetti and bananas but I'm sure he'll get sick of those soon if he eats them too much.

What can I do next?

cubing cheese, veggies, and ham with some goldfish makes a very easy, portable lunch that is well balanced and low on the mess factor.

At that age, my kiddos also liked dipping so I used to slice apples, celery, and colored bell pepper and let them dip in pb or ranch dressing - Note: it was very common for them to prefer the red or yellow peppers with peanut butter and the apples with ranch - kids that age are still experimenting with taste buds.

hah - I give my 1 year old the same stuff (mac n cheese, spaghetti, bananas) and I too think he'll get sick of it! but he hasn't yet... a few more ideas... peanut butter & jelly sandwich, yogurt, granola bar, cream cheese on bread, frozen tator tots, applesauce, crackers n cheese, hopefully that gives you some more ideas :) my sons favorite is spaghettio's - you can get a kids size can for like 85 cents, microwave for 40 seconds - quick and easy.

My son loves fried rice. Just put in a lot of veggies and use olive oil or sesame oil (good fats) and brown rice. Healthy and delish!

i give my daughter cheese, i usually have a little chicken meat i can cut up for her, she like noodles so i keep some cooked whole wheat noodles (spaghetti or mac) just plain in the fridge (toss with just a tiny bit of butter to keep from sticking), fruit (apples cut into small pieces, grapes cut up, kiwi, oranges or mandarin oranges, etc), avacado cut up, steamed veggies (i usually have left from dinner the night before)...she also likes leftover casseroles, i usually just let her go at it & then bathe after she eats (she usually gets 2-3 baths a day lol its just easier that way)

At that age my daughter loved peanut butter on toast (beware of nut allergies), yogurt, waffles, pancakes, turkey (Boar's Head low sodium from the deli), cheerios, corn chex,a scrambled egg with a slice of cheese melted on top, chicken nuggets, meat balls...

She had A LOT of teeth so she could chew everything, it was more of an issue making sure there were no food allery issues (watching the intro of new foods etc).

Also I am not sure how well your little guy chews so some might be a potential chocking hazard - I leave it to your judgement - you know him best!

Have fun!

Cooked cubed chicken, rice, egg noodles, fruits, cooked veggies, toast & jelly, slices of meats, yougurt, cottage cheese and fruit doubles, meatballs, turkey, basically anything you have but make it soft and small enough for him.

You can also give lunch meats and cheeses (sliced thick and cut in cubes), other pastas, applesauce, boneless/skinless chicken (you can cut in bite size pieces). Hot dogs (cut up but be careful of the skins). Chicken or Tuna salad on crackers.

I'm getting a lot of ideas for myself here, but I want to add that you can make a bean and cheese quesadilla too. If you watch it so its not to toasty, it would be easy for your child to eat.
My son also loves rotisserie chichen by itself or seasoned with onions and tomatoes.
Good luck!

In addition to what everyone else said: mini meatballs, lazagna and sweet potatoes. We also use the salmon sticks, chicken nuggets and broccoli bites from Whole Foods in the frozen organic section for when we're running short on time or eating something not so healthy ourselves!

I basically gave my DD anything I was eating, just making sure she didn't cram and stuff her cheeks. Just cut things up to about the size of the top section of you index finger.

Enjoy!

Anything you would eat, just in smaller bites. My kids liked cheese, veg. soup, toast, spaghetti-ohs, applesauce, apples, bananas, and pears at that age, if I remember correctly.
