Hello my husband is a construction worker and all he has been bringing to work for lunch is sandwiches and I'm sure he is getting tired of them. Do ya'll have any ideas of what else he could bring? That doesn't require a refrigator. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I make Sloppy Joe Pockets that my husband loves! You take a refridgerated pie crust and cut circles out using a small bowl or tea cup saucer. You can reroll the crust and cut as many times as you can. Place sloppy joe mix (kinda dry, not too moist) and some cheddar cheese on the inside and then fold the pie crust over and seal it with egg white and then crimp the edges with a fork to make a half moon shape sloppy joe pocket. Bake it in the oven at about 375 for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Take it out, wrap it up in some towels and put it in his lunch bag. Or you can make them the night before and then reheat them in the morning for him.

My husband loves the Starkist flavored tuna packs. He likes herb and garlic, but they also come in sweet and sour and lemon pepper. Your husband could bring one of those and some crackers. They don't need to be refridgerated because they are vacuum packed. However, if he wanted something that needed to be kept cold like turkey or Mayo or something, he could get insulated lunch box and some freezer packs and that might give him some more options.

as summer comes on you can send cans of chili or soups. Even make him burritos and wrap in aluminum foil. IF he doesn't have a microwave around he can always place these items on the dash of truck where sun his and it will warm up by lunch. not HOT ofcourse but not cold either.

My husband has worked in the construction of power plants for 30 years and he still is in a quandary as to what to take for lunch. He has broadened his horizons over the decades at least. He takes soup alot of times now. He used to take sandwiches too and he got really tired of them. He has an office position (but also goes in the field--he's a supervisor/assistant site mgr on his current assignment) so he has access to a microwave. If your husband is out in the field eating this really limits him, I know. You could heat the soup and put into a thermos. My husband went through a salad phase with southwestern chicken that is already cooked, dressing in a small container. Grape tomatoes. He cuts up fruit and takes a fruit salad for a snack..celery stuffed with Laughing Cow Light cheese (like cream cheese but comes in a round box)...sometimes he makes up some breakfast burritos or other types of wraps or burritos and then heats at work. Also lots of different nuts, unsalted mostly...and mixes them with dried blueberries and dried cherries, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, shelled. My husband drinks alot of water so he has a case at work. I have experimented with various plastic containers (like Glad, etc.) for different foods and ones that will best fit his soft pack cooler that expands. Also, you can find whole wheat Ritz and saltines to eat with peanut or almond butter. Alot of times he will take leftover whole grain rice and stir fry veggies, chicken, and heat at work. If he doesn't have access to a microwave think about containers that will keep in the heat for several hours, I don't know much about them. My husband takes 2 small freezer packs in his lunchbag.
Best wishes.

Hi M.

My husband carries his lunch most everyday. He is in the oil field and doesn't have access to a fridge either. You can get a large insulated 'cooler box' and a couple of cold packs that you stick in the freezer the night before. You can find these things in the sporting goods dept at walmart or target or some place like that. This way he can carry a salad or tuna fish or something else cold. My husband does have access to a microwave however, but what we did before for hot food was get a large hot thurmos (sp?) that way before he leaves in the morning he can heat up his soup or left overs from the night before and put it in the thurmos. It stays hot for several hours. Just dont put it in with cold packs, because that will defeat the purpose. I hope this helps you. And good luck!

I have fixed up burritos. When we would have burritos for supper I would fix extra meat. I would warmup the meat and if we had refried beans I'd warm them up also. Put the meat and cheese on the flour tortilla and heat it up in the mircowave for a 1 or 2, wrap the tortilla. I would then individaully wrap the burritos in aluminum foil and put in his lunch box with a dish towel over it. That helps to hold in the heat. That way they don't get cold. I would even put in some chips and hot sauce. My husband really like it for a change.

My husband is a "phone man" and is out on the job during lunch too. I go to recipezaar.com, they have some excellent lunch recipes. You will never get bored looking at all of the different ideas. Even though your hubby gets tired of sandwiches, look at the sandwich ideas. I traded in the ham and cheese or peanut butter & jelly for Shrimp Po Boys and Meatball subs, and he LOVES the new sandwiches, they are more like a home cooked meal or a restaraunt quality sandwich. I also agree with everyone else on here a thermos and cooler is a must! One more thing. I bought my hubby a cig lighter plug in car mini fridge a couple of years ago that can hold up to a 6 pack of soft drinks. He LOVES it!! Good luck!

I am also advocating the ice packs. Also they sell at walmart these little cups of corn, like fruit cups. On that aisle they have all kinds of stuff. Most of the soups can be eaten without heating them up and I like my chef boyardee at room temp. All come with pop top lids on the cans.

Nowadays you can buy a cooler small enough to fit anywhere.
Buy a cooler! that will give you a little more choices to surprise your husband at lunch time. I appreciate you thinking of him since construction could be an exhausting and stressing job. If you had a small cooler you can prepare on weekends: Potato, egg and pasta salads, as well as a vegetable salad with fried lemon-pepper chicken (as they do need that protein)
on cool days you can send a thermo with a hot soup to go along those sandwishes!

Hope it helps!

My daughter gets quite bored w/sandwiches also. Sometimes we'll cook up some chicken strips the night before and make a wrap out of them w/ some cheese and lettuce and a little ranch. Also she really likes sliced hard salami and cheese as something different. You could always try different breads as well. Such as pita or bagels for something different than sliced bread. She also takes salads with the chicken strips because my family seems to believe that it is not a meal without some meat. Hope this helps.

Hi M.,

I have a George Foreman Grill and my husband (he is a police officer) has been taking a grilled chicken breast (grilled 7 minutes/turn over another 7 minutes; sprinkled with Lawrey's salt) and 2 cups of egg noodles. He is trying to eat healthier, so he has been making this FOR HIMSELF - can you believe it? I can't!! He cooks it while he is getting ready in the morning!

By the way, if you are open to it...I would love to give you some information about some products/business that would complement your Arbonne business. You can call me anytime at the number below. Talk to you soon!

Warmly,
M. L.
