I have a two year old that has a lump above his left nipple. It is about the size of a quarter or half dollar, it is hard and feels almost as if it is bigger closer to his chest and gets to about the size of a nickel towards the top. He has had it for about two and half weeks. ( thats when I first noticed it anyway) It has never been red in that area and he has not been sick since I noticed that it was there. He has run a small low grade fever around 99 to 100 or so. Nothing over that. I have called the doctor and dont have an appointment till the end of the month. Anyone have any ideas or have seen this in your own children.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sorry I didnt get this out sooner. SO I did get him into the doctor. Altough it is nothing too serious at the moment it has the potential to be. After doing four xrays in what has too be the worlds worst thing for a child to have to indure. ( the tabel is waist high with a hole in the middle, in that hole is a little tiny bike seat, in which they sit on, with his arms up over his head there is then a thick clear plastic from his waist to the top of his head with a little spot for his face to stick out and that is then fastened shut) We did one in there and two on the table, at which point we were done until the dr ordered us back in there to do it over again two more times. Come to find out he has an abnormal rib bone that is not growing and attaching to his sternum. Causing cartilage (sp?) to make this lump. We have to wait to see if it gets any bigger, and an xray will be needed again to check to see if it has attached and then at that point if it does get bigger an operation will be needed to remove some cartilage and some how attach rib in place. Never heard of this happening before. I will keep you posted !!! Thanks for all your advise!!!!

Call the doctor's office and tell them the end of the month is not acceptable and your son needs to be seen now. A "lump" that suddenly appears should be checked. Be persistant, yet polite. I am not trying to scare you. It should be checked b/c it is still present after 2 1/2 weeks...I'm an R.N., but not currently practicing. Good luck!

I agree. Have it checked out even if you have to take him in to urgent care. Doctor's should be able to see patient in less than a couple days. Take him to another clinic if they won't reschedule

My son also had a lump on his chest when he was about 10. We took him to the doctor and they did an exray. The only thing they could come up with was that it was a calcium deposit on his rib bone or a bone growth on his rib bone. We had to watch it to see if it got any larger and to be honest I forgot about it. When I remembered I asked him and it had disappeared which is what the doctor said would probably happen. Good Luck!

I don't want to scare you or freak you out but to be completely honest here. I would have it checked out asap, urgent care, new doctor whatever you have to do.

My friends 15mo.old had a lump or something similar in her stomach area, along with a the child acting ill, they brought her into the hospital who assumed the parents were abusing the child and they were not and after many tests found out it was a tumor, long story short the baby had cancer, it appeared out of of nowhere very quickly and they just noticed it one day. They said it was just a weird lump on the side of her tummy. The child is now 5 and doing just fine.

When my daughter had a lump on her neck I got in with my daughter's doc. very quickly and my ped. told me she see's this all the time and has no problem checking it out and most of the time it's nothing but she says every once in awhile it is actually something. So she actually thanked me for bringing my daughter in and it was nothing and 3 years later it's still on her neck.
