M.L.
It depends on what flows better with the middle name. Both are cute. Lucy feels more cute and spunky, Lyla feels more graceful and sweet.
To be honest, when I see Lyla, I think of Layla though.
i'm going back and fourth? which would you choose?
no middle name picked yet :)
to those who brought up the nickname thing:
I considered this too seeing as how my daughters have a slew of nicknames.
Grace is Gracie, Grace Jam, Gigi and Gracie Girl for example.
I'm thinking that Lucy has more nickname options: Lulu, Lu etc. (not that a nickname is necessary)
but all my girls do have a special nickname that they get from their dad and I was considering that Lyla really doesn't have any nicknames that don't start with "Ly" (lie?, don't think I like that....)
Opinions? :)

I am biased, but I love Lucy. My youngest is named Lucinda Paige. She is called Lucy. We also call her Lulu, Luc (pronounced Loose) and Lu. It fits her perfectly. My other daughter is also named Grace! Good luck. Whatever you choose will be perfect!
My daughter's name is Lila and I get compliments all the time. I'm starting to hear it a little more often now. When we named her that two years ago people kept saying "I've never heard it before but its beautiful". Its actually a fairly old name (my friend's grandma's name is Lila). We debated between Lila, Lily and Leah but gave the final vote to my then 2-year-old son. I do call her "Li" occasionally which I also thought was weird at first but it kind of just flows out now.
I love Lucy as well but I know my SIL is "saving" that name in case she has a girl :-)
Lyla means night, dark haired beauty or island girl according to a yahoo search.
Lucy means light. Lucy is also the name of a Virgin Saint in the Catholic faith as well as other christian faiths, who was martyred and is the patron of eyes and eyesight. In Scandanavia, the Feast of St. Lucy is celebrated in December, and the youngest daughter wears a wreath adorned with "light" (candles) and serves special buns and drink to her sleeping family. (Breakfast in bed :)
How interesting the names are opposites. Light versus Dark. For fun, you could wait until she's born to see what color hair she's going to have, or decide based on what time she's born. If she's a morning baby...Lucy. If she's a night baby...Lyla.
How about Lucia (Loo-see-uh) and call her Lucy for short.
Lyla ,my vote,beautiful name.
Lyla, such a pretty name :)
My third daughter is Lucy Kate so of course I pick Lucy! :o)
Lyla. Maybe because it reminds my of my old college roomate Myla. :)
I prefer Lucy.
Love Lulu.
:)
Lyla!
Nicknames just happen, you can't pick them out ahead of time :)
I like them both! Check to see which one is more popular, and choose the other one. :)
I really love Lucy. It is such a sweet name.
I vote Lyla! I don't care much for Lucy. As for a nickname you could always do Lala. My daughter has a bunch of nicknames, none having anything to do with her actual name. Maybe a nickname based on her personality. :)
I like Lyla personally. If I had a daughter named Lyla I would probably call her La or Lala, not Ly.
I have only known one Lyla, and I thought that was a beautiful name, for a beautiful, exotic looking Israeli woman. Love that name. Although, I think hers was spelled more like Lilah, like the flower lilac. Never saw it before with a "y", but I like it. :)
Wait until she's born and see which one just fits her :)
Or give her a J middle name and then she's LJ, lady J, etc
Lyla please! That's my 2 year old grandniece's name, spelled the same way - I prefer the old fashioned Lilah spelling myself but either way, a very beautiful name!
I love both. Does that help? ;-)
I like both names but Lyla stands out for me. Her nick name doesn't have to be part of her name. My dads nick name was Jim his actual name was Charles and my uncles nick name was Socks his actual name is Kenneth. My grandfather could not tell me why he gave them those names, he said they just fit and he was the only one that called them by those nick names. So don't worry about the nick name, it could be bunny, or spunky, or even tinkerbell.
Lucille with Lucy as a nickname. Classic and beautiful. She could be a corporate executive or homemaker with a name like that.
I like Lucy better cause it can be lengthened or shortened more easily. Lyla is cute too though.
And, let's not forget "Loose" for Lucy...my son had one in his class :)
I like Lyla, very pretty!
I personally prefer Lyla but like them both! You could spell it Lila and call her "Lil" or Li Li (lee lee), or call her la la. It will depend on your last name mostly, which one sounds better? Like if your last name is Richardson, I think Lyla/Lila flows better with that, if it's Rollins I like Lucy better (lila/lyla may be too many L sounds with that one). And I'd rather be a 40 year old business woman named Lyla/Lila rather than Lucy, Lucy sounds more like a little kid's name. Maybe consider Lucia or Lucinda for more options? Congrats!
i like both names, they are both cute and feminine. a nickname for Lyla could be L I think thats kind of cute. Best of Luck!
I've usually seen "Lyla" spelled L-e-i-l-a, and many folks get mixed up and pronounce it "Leela" all the same. "Lyla" confused me. There's "Lyle," but that's never been a woman's name.
I'd go with Lucy. There are many nickname opportunities, and it'll look great later - "Lucy R., PhD."
(Just read the other answers. So there IS a "Lyla"! I learn something new every day.)
I prefer Lucy.
But you should pick a middle name AND see which suits your baby before deciding.
I like Lucy... But maybe it's because our daughter's name is Lacey. Her nicknames are/were La la, Lace and Lacey Loo.
