My daughter has a low grade fever but she just finished a 10 day course of Amoxillin yesterday. I had originally took her to her doctor because she had cold like symptoms & a fever. He told me her throat was a little irritated & prescribe me the antibiotic. She still has a cough too. Does the antibiotic take a while to take effect? Or do you think it just didn't work in the first place? I'm in the middle of switching doctors at the moment because he's way too busy to even call back..
I just gave her Similasan right now does anyone know if its safe to give her Tylenol still? It says its for fevers too but its not going down.
I would have her looked at. It could be a new viruse/infection..
Most coughs, nope the antibiotic will not work. They are usually viral. But you want her looked at anyhow.
She had an irritated throat and she got antibiotics???? Wow. When you say low grade, what is it. Is she acting sick or did you just happen to check her temp. Temps vary during the day. See what tomorrow brings.
Robin, if she goes to ER and tells them she is having trouble breathing, she will be subjected to unnecessary tests. This is not something g for an ER.
ERs are for emergencies. This is not even close.
It takes awhile for the body to recover from an infection. I suggest that you wait and see if she becomes better over the next week. It's natural to continue coughing after a sore throat. It takes time for the tissues to recover and it's common to continue to have a post nasal drip for awhile.
It's also common for us to have a low grade fever. We just don't usually notice it unless we're paying attention because we've been sick.
Bottom line: wait a week or two before becoming concerned. I suggest that she'll improve with time.
Have her checked out...if it was bacterial, you would have seem some improvement in a couple of days or so...it could be that the amoxicillin wasn't the right course and maybe she needs something different...or maybe it's viral, in which case antibiotics don't help...THe cough, on the other hand, be it viral or bacterial, can last a while (I had pneumonia over Halloween and just recently got over the cough and yes, my lungs were clear according to my MD)

She should be seen by the doctor again or an Urgent Care center. It is possible that the medicine wasn't strong enough.
Depends what you are treating. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections so if your daughter is having viral symptoms, the antibiotics would have done nothing for that anyways. When my daughter spiked a fever after her course of antibiotics she was hospitalized so she could receive I.V. antibiotics. But we already had a confirmed bacterial infection.
If it was bacterial, you would have seen an improvement within 24 hours of starting the antibiotic. It's either viral (and therefore won't respond to antibiotics), or it's something else or something new.
It also really depends on what her temperature is and how she's acting (behavior says a lot!). If it's 99 or even 100, doctors don't even bat an eyelash at that. Running a higher-than-normal temperature is partly the body's way of fighting infection, so it's not necessarily beneficial to give her something that's going to eliminate the body's defense system.
And if she's up and eating and seeming fine, it's probably the tail-end of what might have been a bad cold. If she's laying around with little or high color, not eating, etc, then it may be something to at least call the Nurse Practitioner (NP) about.
Being that she still has a fever I would probably have her rechecked to see if the first antibiotic did its job. Otherwise she may need another.
Although from our recent experience whatever is going around hangs on and on and on.
may be pneumonia-have a chest xray-may as well be sure-just save yourself the time and go to the ER-tell them she is having trouble breathing ansd they will take her immediately-good luck
