Hi! My 3yr old son has had a low fever since yesterday morning, like 99.8. Yesterday evening it got a little higher, 100.3. Today the same thing all day and spiked just slightly around dinner like yesterday. He doesn't have any other symtoms (congestion, cough, sore throat, etc.), just the low fever. He seems a little more tired than usual.
Have any of you had this happen with your kids? (I really don't want to take him to the dr., pay my $40 co-pay just for the dr. to say he is fine and has a little bug.) So I think I will just keep a close eye on him and hopefully the fever will go away, but I am wondering if you guys have had this happen to your kids. Thanks!
I would not worry about a low grade fever. Sometimes they will run a fever from a virus and have no other symptoms. Besides their is nothing the doctor can do for just a low grade fever. They even recommend not giving Tylenol until the fever is above 101 or the child is uncomfortable. I would just watch him, because the doctor will probably just say he has a virus. If he is playing and acting normal don't worry!

I am no Doctor, I can just offer you my opinion on this matter. A low grade fever is your son's way of fighting infection. Some fevers should run its course and sometimes do not require any medication. I would watch your son carefully and see if there is any change in appetite and activity levels. My son who is 21 months would have low grade fevers that would last three to five days sometimes.
Just watch him carefully and I hope he get better soon!
If it makes you feel better, my pediatrician's office says call IF the fever continues over 72 hours. With no other symptoms, I'd just wait it out. His body is fighting something off so treating such a low grade fever maybe counterproductive to his body's natural process. I usually give my kiddos tylenol if it's in the 101+ range since they are usually "feeling" bad, too. Hope it turns out to be nothing!
My 2.5yo son had it last week. His 99-101 fevers lasted four days with no other symptoms. I only gave him ibuprofen at night to make him comfortable while he slept. I figured he was just fighting something- thank the Lord he won this one!
I think there is some sort of virus going around. My son (4 yrs old) has had something similar. Several days of a low-grade fever, and he will periodically say his head or his stomach hurts, but no symptoms other than that. Motrin helps the fever and makes him feel better. I also heard that another girl at his daycare had the same symptoms. I am going to just watch him for any worse symptoms, and hope it goes away on it's own.

I wouldn't worry. As you said, just keep an eye on him. You can always give him a dose of Tylenol to bring that temp down since that is usually what the doctor would say anyhow. Is he eating and drinking ok? I have that high co-pay also, so I try to avoid the doc as much as I can. Do they have a nurse you can call? I call ours with a lot of my little questions like this. One other thing, just keep close watch on your daughter's temp too. Since she is under a year you'll want to be sure her's doesn't start to spike.
Last Friday mine had 104 at the sitter. The nurse said to take her to acute kids. She had no other symptoms and was fine by sunday.
My kids have had random low-grade fevers. However, the one nearly 2 weeks ago turned out to be not so random. My son had a fever like this that started on a Thurs night, went through the weekend with ups and downs, he was acting a little tired, but no other symptoms. He started having major diarrhea Sunday afternoon through Mon morning. He got a little dehydrated but after a huge nap Mon afternoon his fever broke and he began retaining fluids better.
I'd treat the fever if he's uncomfortable, offer plenty of things to drink, wash your hands often, and wait it out.
