Low Amniotic Fluid - Newfield,NJ

I had a leak that eventually ruptured. At first, they thought the low fluid was just timing, so they had me return a few days later after drinking more than usual. Once they determined it was a leak, they told me drink up to 2 gallons (I was actually a water-holic already drinking a gallon), and bed rest. But then I ruptured and was admitted to the hospital until he arrived (4wks later).

When I ruptured, it wasn't watery fluid pouring out, but more like massive amounts of fertile cervical fluid, like eggwhite consistency, oozing out (sorry if (TMI!). It happened while on the toilet, almost filling the bowl and soaking several towels. I'm not sure if that's what you need to look for, but if that happens, call the OB. I delayed thinking it wasn't watery enough and I didn't want someone else to delay.

I had low amniotic fluid but not from leaking (I don't think) with my second. I ended up on complete bed rest for a few months which stunk but my levels went back up and the "baby" who is now 2 1/2 was normal at birth. Best of luck! I am sure you are concerned but I hope it all turns out ok.

S., I just had my 2nd baby 5 weeks ago and had the same thing. Always wet down there, and I suspected I was leaking for a few weeks as it smelled "sweet" (not urine). Just keep drinking lots and lots of water. On the u/s they should be able to measure how much fluid is there and if you're in danger. Mine was low, but not low enough that they needed to induce me. The fluid keeps regenerating so keep drinking! Finally, the day I went into labor I noticed a larger amt of fluid than normal come out at one point in the morning, and then my contractions started about 8 hours later.

Amniotic fluid is:
1) VERY difficult to measure on u/s at this stage of pregnancy. It's very likely that everything is perfectly fine.
2) constantly replenishing itself. You *may* have been "low" when you went in, but you could've been totally fine the day before & today.

Drink to thirst or a little more & relax. I'm sure everything will be perfectly fine!

I had this problem when I was almost full term with my daughter. I didn't know that I was leaking for the same reason as you. My friend that also leaked told me that (graphic) the fluid has a fruity smell to it. She says to put your hand down there and touch, then smell your fingers. I didn't find out until it was 2 days before my due date that I had very low fluid and they induced me an hour later. I hope this helps a little! Good luck!

I haven't been through that but rest and plenty of fluids is what I have read.

I ended up with an unwanted C-section due to low fluid. I never had any evidence of leaking - no one knows why my fluid was so low. They said there would be no cushion for the cord during labor, and the baby could die. My daughter is now almost 14 months old, and I am still not sure the C was really necessary. I believe that if we/they had caught the problem sooner, I could have done what others have mentioned - bed rest, lots of water, etc. Anyway, all that to say do whatever you can to get your levels back up!!

I had the same problem. I was 8 days overdue and they were very concerned about the amount of fluid I had lost. They induced me the very next day. I ended up having a c-section cause I was not dialating. I was not aware of the problem cause like you said you are always wet. You pee when you sneezed. LOL One day I had to pee really bad and of course my husband took his sweet time in the bathroom and it ran down my leg. I thought that it was because I couldn't wait any longer. The Dr told me that it may have been fluid leaking out. Since it was my first I had no idea. Depending on how far along you are I would question it again and make sure that they recheck your levels.
