I am interested in getting a pair of lovebirds and am seeking information from other lovebird owners.

sorry i don't have any advice but ahh this question brought back memories :) i had a pair when i was little and their names were sonny and cher (yes i'm a bit older than you :) ) i don't remember them being a problem (my mom might say different) but they would get loud sometimes at night and wake me up :( good luck.

The best advice I can give you is to only get one lovebird. It is a myth that they need to be in pairs. If you are wanting this bird to be a loving family pet, a single bird is the best option. If you have a pair, they will bond with each other and become less "human friendly". This was a huge mistake I made with my first lovebird, I bought two. Every one that I have had since then is a single bird and have had fantastic results.

I would also recommend getting it from a breeder that hand feeds and not from a pet store. A handfed bird is much calmer and bonded to humans.

Good luck!

Hi N.,
I agree with Cindy. Get only one if you want any kind of interaction with them. When they are paired, they can become quite aggressive towards anyone but each other.

They are very pretty, but... They bite very hard, and their chirp is very loud and high pitch. There are many birds out there that I would recommend before a lovebird.

Hi N.,
I had a set of lovebirds from my boyfriend at the time, about 10 years ago. Can I just tell you that they are loud and messy. I had had parakeets in the past and thought the lovebirds would be the same. Well, they required a lot more care than I had known. Hope that helps, and let's see what the other feedback is. D.
