Lotions and Potions for a Sensitive Skin Infant

My son has had rashy skin since he was born (I do not eat dairy, soy or gluten so I doubt it's dietary). It seems nothing works to calm his skin down! He constantly has red rashes especially in the crook of his elbows and behind his knees. Is this a form of heat rash? He'll also flare up with a red pimply rash around his shoulders and abdomen. He is now starting to get a rash on his cheeks I'm assuming because he's really sucking on his hands/fingers and as much as I try to wipe his face off the moisture is irritating him. My ped. has chalked it up to baby rash but I want pretty baby skin! Can any one suggest bath lotion and moisturizing lotion that has worked for them? I'd prefer paraben free but at this point I'm willing to use whatever works.

What can I do next?

Hi Amy-Karen Mcnab who will be sending you her info shortly is an Arbonne rep. I have used it for 7 years and is certified vegan, paraben free and works great.

They have a line of baby products which I really like:).

Also has the baby been on any antibiotics? This is indicative of a candida infection which must be treated from the inside. You can also use hexene free, cold pressed coconut oil from nuitva or NOW (vitacost.com or whole foods if you want to pay thru the nose:) It works wonders as well. I would also get a probiotic for him.

My son has had this same issue since he was born--although it was only on his face. We tried many different ideas, but this is what worked...bath him using Dove moisturizing body wash for sensitive skin and then right after the bath use Aveeno skin relief moisturizing lotion with soothing oat essence--fragrance free. (I don't sell the stuff, I just got the bottle so I could tell you exactly what it is!) We had to stick with it for about two weeks before I noticed any difference. Also, don't give too many baths--try only two a week and don't use washcloths. I know it sounds crazy, but this routine completly cleared up his skin. I'd love to know what you decide to do! Good luck!

Amy:
I am so sorry that your little one is experiencing all of this. It is so frustrating and many doctors don't realize that what you put on your skin does have an effect on our health. As Toni nicely said, I represent Arbonne, and they have an amazing line of babycare products for children - it works especially well with those who have very sensitive skin like your little man! Not only is our product pediatrician tested, it is also recommended.

I would be happy to send you picture testimonials and doctor testimonials as well. If you would send me your email address, I can attach a few things for you to review. It would be my pleasure to help you out. Being a first time mom is never easy. I've been around the block many times now and wish I knew back then what I know now!

Hope to hear from you and remember that Arbonne's products are botanically based and have no chemicals, dyes, fragrances, mineral oil (very bad), alcohol, animal by products and are pH correct. You don't want your baby to suffer any more. I am here to provide some answers. Take care and here's to your health too!

I understand how you feel! When my son was born, he had great skin for like 2 weeks. =) Then he had constant issues. Sometimes it would get better and then it would flare up. For him, it was the occasional pimply kind on the creases too- I assumed it was from the heat. He still gets that and he is 18 months. But his main problem was his face! And sorry to say, his didn't completely go ways until he was a year. It gets better! It might take time but it will eventually get better. But I understand... my friends had babies around the same time as me and their babies had such clear skin and I would feel so bad! One thing that really helped us was using Cetaphil. Our ped. recommended it... she gave us a list of and that was the most easy thing to find. We used and still use the gentle skin cleanser and lotion. For his hair we just used a baby shampoo. Cetaphil is really gentle and not sudsy- try to avoid products that are too sudsy. That irritates their skin. I also researched other stuff out there and the organic lotions and soaps seem to work great too (they are not sudsy!). One I was really wanting to buy was Earth Mama Angel Baby http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/index.html but it was too expensive for us. But if the Cetaphil did not work out, that was my next step. But Cetaphil worked for us! Also I hear California baby is great too!

My son sucked his hands a lot so he would constantly have a rash around his mouth... but like I said, the Cetaphil sometimes helped, sometimes did not.

I have a friend whose son had pretty bad eczema and it was diagnosed recently that he has food allergies. Although it is really too early to get an allergy test... that could be something to keep in mind when he gets older. I probably would have thought my son had food allergies since my husband does but since he cleared up at a year, I don't think he does anymore.
Sorry for the long response.... hope it helps!
