Have you ever looked at your schools lost and found?
I'm amazed!
Several times per year, our school spreads out all items on the floor of the main entrance (hard to miss) and when I say there are typically 50 WINTER coats, etc. in the "lost and found" I am amazed! How does a kid "forget (for MONTHS) a winter coat in January in Pennsylvania? LOL Let alone forget it for day after day after day?

Not to mention the mounds of hats, gloves, scarves, books, head bands, etc.

Today, my son is going to check the lost-and-found for his missing envelope with $24 that was supposed to go into his lunch account last week!

What stuff in your house has been claimed by the school lost-and-found?

What can I do next?

Ah, I dislike the lost and found at school. My mom bought my kids really nice winter hats and gloves last year...my daughter lost her hat almost immediately. And then someone stole it from there!! Ugh! I dislike dishonest thieves...and the parents who let them keep things that arent theirs.

But yes, there are always interesting things in there!

I don't know about the school's lost and found, but we own a small, private boat club, and here are some thing's in our lost and found:

-countless towels and sunglasses
-a few pairs of men's boxers... no, I DON'T want to know why
-assorted, mismatched flip flops
-a 'O. hitter' (looks like a cigarette, but for smoking pot, MAD about that O.)
-camping stove
-flashlights
-lighters (I steal those, LOL)
-all kinds of hats
-dog leash
-lots of books and magazines

And much more. What I'd love to know is, these men who've 'lost' their boxers, how the hell do you explain that O. to your wife?! HAHA! Once a year, usually about now, we take inventory of what's left, send out an email to our members, then donate whatever's left :)

I had some really nice gloves as a kid never make it to lost and found. :(

I'm always amazed at the amount of stuff that is lost and found at the local pool. You know those floaty suits for little kids? Brand new, just laying around. The pool donates the towels and useful clothing at the end of the season, but they lay it all out for people to look through first.

This is another reason why I put tags on so much of my kid's stuff. Especially after we lost a hoodie for a time at her old daycare. I got a combo set of labels (http://www.mabel.ca/products/clothing+labels&a=www) and stick them on everything. The tag mates go on all DD's dinosaurs because I can't tell O. T-Rex from another most days and all her little friends have them. FIRST thing I did with her new coat is put tag mates on all the parts (it's a 3 in 1 coat). Too many of my friends also shop at Target so it's all the same!

Kids can also be terrible about looking. My SD refused to look for her CELL PHONE O. year. If it had been on my dime, I would have really lost it. She also found an SD card from someone's vacation last summer outside her HS. I asked around, but could never find the owners.

For the last six years my kids have been in elementary school, I've been the volunteer to "manage" the lost and found. There are times it can be a full time job!!

In our lost and found there have been everything - backpacks - yes BACK PACKS, lunch boxes, sweaters, shirts, socks, shoes, barrettes, scarves, umbrellas...many many things.

For things that have names, I contact the parent(s) and let them know the item is in the lost and found. It is then the child's responsibility to then get it. If they don't, it is donated to Goodwill - we make the trip twice a year. Parents know this too.

how do kids forget BACKPACKS? Probably very easily when the parent doesn't take the time to get involved and just runs out and buys another O.. Coats? I know we have more than O. winter jacket in this house for our boys...however, if they lose it - we don't run out and buy them a new O.. They must find it...if they left it at the park? Guess they will get cold. money doesn't grow on trees in this house!
