Losing the Baby Weight... PLEASE HELP!!

My son is 8 months old. I gained about 39 pounds when I was pregnant with him. I'm 19 and before I was pregnant I was about 5'5 and 125-130 pounds. I thought since I was so young I'd just snap back really quick. Now I'm about 140 pounds and really need to lose these last 20 pounds. It makes me so depressed when i see my body now and I just want to lose these last few pounds. I don't see how people can just have a baby and BOOM be skinny so fast. I'm breastfeeding which could have something to do with it but any advice, your expriences or stories, words of encouragement helps. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

Weight Watchers. I L. it and am very successful with it. The best part is that I can eat whatever I want in moderation! I even had a cupcake last night. As long as you account for it, you're good! Good luck!

Hi Alice,

I had a very similar situation after my daughter was born and had twenty pounds that I just could NOT get off. I looked and looked for the right thing to do, and felt like everything I ended up doing didn't work(diet, exercise, yoga, running, etc- you name it, I did it). Those stubborn 20 just wouldn't come off. I actually found a really great doctor named Dr. Justin Hoffman that I heard about through my girlfriend who lost weight under his guidance. I ended up losing those 20 pounds really fast and now I feel great, look like the old me and feel younger. Also- I haven't gained it back and it has been a year since i did it. I wasn't breastfeeding and it was about a year after my pregnancy. He is really amazing, I know quite a few people that have gone to him and he is sort of the buzz around town cause he has helped so many people I know. He is up on NW 23rd and Raleigh (?). You can find him online if you look up Dr. Justin Hoffman in Portland. Or I can give you his #.
Anyway, hang in there!

I was 125 when I got pregnant with my first and gained 48 lbs. 130 with my second and gained 143 (I weighed the exact same weight the morning of each of my births, weird haw?). Anyway, I was told that anything over 20-25lbs is not "baby-weight" but additional weight that you put on. It takes longer to get that weight of because you have to work harder at it. Its not "baby" weight therefore your body doesnt naturally try to shred it. I might be completely nuts on this one, but it made sense to me when I read it.
That said, you are doing great! You are only 8 months into your weight-loss journey. I dont know if you exercise or not, but try adding a bit of that into your routine and watch your processed carbs! I wish there was a majic pill that would erase those pounds, but it took a year and a half with each of healthy eating and exercise to get all of the weight off. Yoga is GREAT! walking is wonderful and something you can do with baby.
One last thing: when you do lose those pesky 20 lbs, dont stress if your "skinny" jeans still don't fit. Your body is different now and that is a wonderful thing. Go out and treat yourself to your new favorite jeans!

I lived a very similar story to yours. I started walking everyday when the doctor released me for exercise. I found a time of day that worked for me. I would feed and change the baby, put him in the stroller and we would walk an hour a day. The fresh air was great for the baby and me too. I lost forty pounds in three months. FYI, walk a good pace not leisurely because you want to get your heart rate up. You can do it!

Don't base things on celebrities ... it's well known that many have tummy tucks when they have those c-sections to get a flat tummy ASAP. And they also have personal chefs, nannies and trainers. SPANX also can cover up post-baby weight. Also, some people just lose weight quickly or put on very few pounds while pregnant. Don't beat yourself up. The average woman takes a while to lose all of the weight.

It wasn't in my cards, either. I gained 50 lbs. with each child and the last 20 have always been the worst. I was used to being slim and have accepted I'll never have my old body back. I'm ok with it. I eat healthy and work out 4 days a week, doing a mix of cardio, weights and yoga. I'm toning up, but even after a year and a half at it, don't resemble my old self entirely. What will kick things into gear for you is when you son starts walking. I always lose weight at that stage because you're constantly running around. Best of luck to you!

Hi Alice,
I felt the same way after my first was born two years ago. I tried breastfeeding (which didn't go very well) and my weight didn't budge. I started running again, walking 3-4 miles a day, doing light weight training, yoga - you name it. I lost most of the weight but fifteen pounds would NOT come off. I tried Isagenix nutrition plan with a cleanse. It was amazing. It provided vital nutrients so I had energy and I completely lost my cravings for sugar and while flour. I had been a sugar junkie for years but suddenly it didn't taste good any more. Fruit and veggies and whole grains tasted better. Go figure. It worked so well that I have ordered more product so that I'm ready for when I want to lose weight after baby #2 on the way.

Check out the website: http://banishcravingsloseweight.isagenix.com/us/en/cleans...

Good luck!

Do not fret- losing the weight is possible! I gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy and when the weight didn't immediately fall off I lost motivation and stopped working out. When my daughter was 6 months old I still had not lost a pound and could stand it no longer! I made a vow to lose the weight then and there. I started slowly by not eating anything after 8 pm. I did yoga 20 minutes a day then added in a core work out 20 minutes every other day. When I felt a little better I added in 30 minutes of biking to my favorite show on TV. After a month I had lost 15 pounds and had the motivation to no longer sabotage my workouts by over eating. A food journal helped me to be accountable. Avoiding high fructose corn syrup and carbs helps. NO alcohol. You can't drink and expect to lose weight- no way. A month later I started walking every night 1-5 miles and I lost 30 more pounds. Over Christmas break I hit a bad plateau and could no longer lose any weight. Thats when I went to Whole Foods and picked up a natural cleanse. After that I totally quit all artificial sweeteners (diet soda). I read that the bad stuff in artificial sweeteners makes you bloated and can actually stop the fat burning process. I quickly lost 10 pounds. I picked up Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and the strength training gave my body the muscles it needed to burn through the calories I was eating. I am now 80 pounds thinner than the day I gave birth and can finally look in the mirror without recoiling in horror! It is possible but nothing comes for free. Work produces results. Good Luck!

I gave birth to mine 11 months ago. I got back to my pre-preggo weight, but the amount of flab was what really upset me. I started the Biggest Loser Cardio workout DVD. It has the three trainers on it (I don't really watch the show, but got some good recommendations for it). It was only $10 and I L. it. There are three workouts, plus the warm up and cool down. You can customize it to whatever workouts you want to do. I do the two 10 minute ones and I'm working up a good sweat by the end. It's giving those large muscles a good workout - quads, glutes, etc. I have seen a difference in the muscle tone in less than three weeks. I only do it 3 times a week for right now, but will be adding bike riding and rollerblading to it once the weather warms up.
*Go easy at first, the first time I did the 20 minute one, I couldn't hardly walk for the next few days!!

I already eat pretty well, so I didn't have to change that too much. I don't think depriving yourself of treats is the way to go - it just makes you want them more and when you go for it, end up eating 4 brownies instead of just one. Or, maybe that's just me.....LOL! I L. veggies, so I eat a lot of those. Whole grains are good -stay away from white rice, pasta, etc. I didn't really read the other posts, so maybe someone has already mentioned this.
Anyway, hang in there. With all my kids, I would get back or almost back to pre-pregnancy weight and once I was done breastfeeding, those last 3-6 pounds came off. With summer around the corner it should be easier to get out and about which will also help.
Good luck!

It's very easy to incorporate into your daily routine. You can purchase directly from my site at www.nursekerry.myarbonne.com but you can also get more information and weight loss tools from the Figure 8 web site at www.gofigure8.com. Breastfeeding is a great start. Breastfeeding actually helps you loose that weight. Other than that , running is a good way to get there. Make sure you're getting enough good calories not just sugary ones. And taking vitamins.

Don't worry about it and don't compare yourself to other women who might seem to get skinny after their baby comes - you have no way of knowing if their losing weight in a healthy way! It takes time to get back to your pre-preg weight...beating yourself up over it is not fair to you. Besides, you just brought a new life into the world and you can appreciate your body for that! I was on bedrest and gained a whopping 60 lbs with my dd and she is now 9 mos - I have 10 lbs to lose yet, but everyoone promises me that once she is up and moving I'll be so busy chasing her the weight will just fall off - I'm sure the same will be true for you. Just take good care of yourself and enjoy that little baby of yours!

I trained for a marathon but was never able to lose weight until I went to weight watchers. I got back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but then I got pregnant again (planned). I need to start back again soon...maybe after the Girl Scout cookies are all gone:)
