I am still nursing my 16 month old son (a lot!) and just recently my right boob stopped producing milk. My left one is doing great, but now they are very different sizes! Will they return to the same size? and when? Thanks for your help!
Thanks everyone who responded! I had to go get a Pap so I asked the gyn what she thought and she said its perfectly normal. I asked what she thought might be the reason and she had no idea. All though I am not super satisfied with her answer, I do think that its semi normal! I did recently loose about 5 pounds rather quickly, so perhaps its from that? My friends assure me that they will return to the way they were before after the nursing. Until then I guess I will just have to stuff my right side! LOL!
I had that prob with my second child since the day she born. 2 totally different sizes. They did even out and did't have the problem with my third. Don't fret, I hear it's fairly common.

I am breastfeeding my 13-mos old from only one breast (out of her preference, and therefore poor supply from the odd guy out). THey were pretty lopsided for a while, but strangely, they both look more or less the same now. It took maybe 1-2 mos to ave out, but I think they're more or less equal now. (With less being the operative word. Where on earth did my breasts go, anyway? Even with continued breastfeeding, they have disappeared! But that's another conversation!)
The breast that is not producing milk might have a clogged or infected mammary gland. I would get to the doctor and have them checked out. It might just appear that one is bigger then the other because it is swollen, does it hurt?
They should once you stop nursing all together. Mine are still slightly different sizes but that change happened when I was pregnant and it never went back even after I stopped nursing. I'd contact your OB/GYN to find out why one of your breasts has stopped producing when you are still nursing.

First of all congrads on nursing this long many mothers can't hang and i comend you for that. I nursed mine for 15 months but had to stop because i went in for surgery. It was hard to break. Anyway, i had the same problem. My son liked the Right one better then the left so my right one was huge while my left not so much and they are still that way. Thats why they tell you to rotate every feeding. I would suggest that you start having him suck more on the righ one. It will produce the more that is sucked. It will gradually come back. Also continue to eat alot because without food there is no milk. The more a baby sucks the more milk is produced. This worked with me i hope it can work with you. Are you also giving him solids. I would suggest that also if your not already. Rice, vegiees and fruits will do wonders. Also it could be that the reason your son is sucking so much is because its a security thing with hi. He might just be doing it to suck, for attention, or cause he bored. Mine used to want to suck all the time it was habit and a comfort for him. When he wanted to feel close thats what he did.
