I have two boys. After the first(7lbs 9oz) i bounced back with a little ab work. my skin was stretched, but nothing major. After number 2 (9lbs 3oz) i have been left with some ugly muscle seperation around my navel. This kid was HUGE and wrecked my tummy. i am not sure it will ever be perfect again.
Pilates has done wonders for me, if it wasn't for the muscle seperation, I would be just like before. it is great exercise. But you have to do the work. it won't happen without commitment.

I don't think there's any painless way, no. If you have any fat around the middle, then the only way to lose that is diet and exercise. All the sit-ups in the world won't get rid of fat, so you need to do aerobic, fat-burning exercise (walking, jogging, riding a bike, swimming, etc.). It takes burning 3500 extra calories to lose 1 pound.

Once you get rid of the fat, then muscle toning becomes more important. That's when sit-ups and things of that nature will help your stomach look flat. The reason it's painful is that in order for the muscle to rebuild, it has to be torn down first. Doing that hurts, but if you don't stress the muscles, they have no reason to strengthen, and you won't achieve any results.

I have struggled with this, too, and finally accepted that I just need to practically beat it off of myself for it to go away. I exercise (both aerobic exercise and weights) an hour a day and it is still hard! (Mostly because I like to eat =) So I'm not there yet, but the exercise makes me feel happy afterward and I can feel that under the chub, I have muscles forming. If I ever get rid of the chub, I'll be one hot mama! Ha ha...

You cannot "spot reduce". All the crunches in the world are not going to flatten your tummy, it will strenghten the ab muscles, but not melt the fat....In order to loose it, you have to burn fat and the best way to do that is aerobic activity and a healthy diet. If you keep at it you will watch your tummy shrink!!! Good Luck!!

I hope you get some great responses!
I'm very thin, but I'll tell you what....the only fat I have on my body is in my tummy area and I don't like it at all. I'm going on 50 and I'm scared to death I'll look like an apple on toothpicks if I'm not careful. I've had a broken back, leg, arm, and separated shoulder so crunches or push ups or anything of that sort are out of the question. I'd rather have the tummy stuff in my hiney, or some on my legs, but it's not working out that way. I've also heard that gaining weight around your middle is the most dangerous place to gain it, healthwise. I walk every day, I'm as active as I can be, but I don't know what to do about the tummy thing. I eat a very healthy diet. (I think).
I think after breaking my back, I need to strengthen my core, but not sure how to go about it.

I can't wait to read your responses!

My answer to you is Colon Hydrotherpy. If you are like most women you do not go to the bathroom everyday. This will not only help flatten your stomach faster but it will rid your body of toxins that may prevent you from loosing weight. Some toxins are stored in the fat and no matter how much you diet you cannot loose those extra pounds.
