Loom Kit Recommendations?

Hello fellow parents, I have seen several kids at my child's aftercare with these loom kits. It seems to be the next hot thing judging by their popularity and the amount of people I have seen wearing them, from kids to adults. There are many different brands (Wonder Loom, Rainbow Loom, DIY Loom) and types of kits out there (standard, deluxe)...Some people say they're all the same thing, some are adamant that certain brands are not as good and the rubber bands aren't as strong or durable.

I was wondering if anyone had any feedback as to which brands are trustworthy and which not to buy, I want to get my daughter a kit for Christmas but there are so many different brands and options, including pricing options, from $9-$15 that I don't know which one to choose! I thought a personal account from fellow parents might be more trustworthy than some online reviews which may be biased.

Thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

So What Happened?

I found the Rainbow Loom on Amazon.com for about $12, and that's the one I ended up buying her for Christmas. It seemed pretty middle of the range in terms of pricing. We haven't used it yet but don't anticipate any issues. She has actually learned to make loom bracelets on her own with her grandmother's crochet needle and the rubber bands, which we get at the dollar stores, so if the kit does break, she still will be able to make bracelets on her own. Happy holidays!

We have one Rainbow Loom in our house, and I'll be getting a second for Christmas. My MIL introduced us to this thing back on Labor Day weekend. She has 15 grandkids, and all but the littlest ones figured it out pretty quick.

My 6 year old can put the bands on the pegs for the basic bracelet, that comes with the loom/instruction book. But, she can't, quite, unhook them and fold them over the right way without launching the band all over the house. There are also a ton of online tutorials for more advanced bracelets too.

Rainbow Loom claims it's the first one on the market, and the "original" but I read somewhere that it's the reincarnation of SillyBandz or something like that. Rainbow Loom is all plastic parts. There is one spot on the multipurpose hook that is kinda sharp. Not sharp enough to draw blood, but kinda hurts if you poke yourself when not paying attention.

The Rainbow loom is supposed to be the best. When checking out others, if you do, look for how the pegs are aligned and made. I looked at one that was $9 and it seemed the pegs were not really clean, meaning some appeared broken where there could be sharp edges. My daughter's friend makes them herself with a pencil. The biggest difference is the bands. With this, you do get what you pay for. The cheaper ones do tend to break more easily.

Everything I hear is that the Original Rainbow Loom, supposedly sold only at Michaels, is the best one. Some of the others are said to have sharp edges. Pricing seems to be pretty comparable across the board.

Anyway, I think if you're going to do it, get the Original.

Yes there are many brands and prices.
Even Walmart has "Bandaloom" etc.
Many brands.
The best thing to do is look on Amazon and read the reviews.
And then it depends on how much you want to spend.

My kids who are 7 and 11, make the rubberband bracelets, and they don't even have a loom to make it. They make it with their fingers and learned how from their friends.
Both girls and boys, make and wear them and teachers and adults and I even wear them because my kids make them for me and I like it. :)
