I have a 3 year-old son who is starting to become a picky eater, especially when it comes to vegetables. Are there any good recipes/ideas out there that have worked with your kids in getting them to eat and enjoy their veggies?

What can I do next?

My kids have always love chicken stir fry with veggies have you every thought of doing a cassorole meal and just put some veggies in the cassorole? It works also.

Hope you find a way to get your lil' one to eat veggies.

Make the food look fun. When things look fun, kids like to eat them. Sticking broccoli in mashed potatoes creates a forest. Make a smiling face out of red, yellow and green peppers.

Another idea is to purchase popcorn toppings like cheddar cheese sprinkles and let the kids add fun flavor.

I too have heard that Deceptively Delicious is really good. I have a friend who is a dietician and she uses this with her picky son all the time.. .he has NO clue! It may take a little more work but if it gets them to eat it then its worth it!

Hi E.,

I don't have a lot of suggestions. I have a friend who read about cutting the veggies real small and cooking them in food (i.e. cauliflower in cream of chicken or chicken noodle soup.) She actually did broccoli in it and it was good. Some people bake them in cookies.

I'm sending you a pm with some other info.

I might stay away from all those books that deceive children about what veggies they're eating. How will they ever learn to eat them?

There are two books out:

The Sneaky Chef and Deceptively Delicious. One is supposedly a copy of the other. The main gist of the book is that you use vegetable puree's in recipes and the kids never know it.

Definately try the different shapes veggie cutter. Make crinkles or stars, you get the idea. If he likes to dip stuff, you could always let him dip it in ranch or cheese sauce. My four year old is a big "dipper", and he loves ranch, so I cut stuff (if I can) into french fry shapes and let him dip it. He thinks it's the greatest. Oh, and we also make a veggie pizza that calls for zucchini slices and shredded carrot. We call those green pepperoni, and orange cheese. It may be decieving, but at least he's eating. :)
