I am currently seeing an OB/Gyn who says I "might" be able to try for a VBAC, but that is the most he has talked to me about it. I really want to try and I am afraid that if I stay at his practice, that its not going to happen. Anyone know of a VBAC friendly OB/Gyn in or around Lewisville? Thanks in advance.
Dr. Dooley in Denton will do VBACs her phone number is ###-###-####. Dr. Cummings (one of Dr. Dooley's on-call partners) just did a VBAC on a woman who had had several c-sections. Dr. Fliender in Lewisville is probably VBAC friendly - I know his wife personally and she had a VBAC after 2 c-sections. Congratulations on your baby.
Sorry if you've already heard this - which I'm sure you have...Dr. Fred Cummings in Denton is worth the drive! I'm using him for my first VBAC and he's AWESOME! Midwives call him a midwife in disguise because of his comfort level about a woman's body's ability to birth! He recently did a VBAC after 5 c-sections and a VBAC after 4 c-sections within 2 weeks. He delivers at Denton Presbyterian hospital. Hope that helps!
PS Research will tell you (look up ICAN and get in contact with a group) that the risk is greater for a 2nd c-section than for a VBAC. There are a LOT of myths about VBACs that are being dispelled right now - I think we're going to see a comeback as more OBs and moms see the success rates soar! Good luck!
More than the OB/GYN doing the VBAC make sure the hospital will allow it. When I was preg. with our 3rd my OB was all for it b/c of the circumstances however the hospital would not let me b/c of a policy the hospital had about VBACs. Check with the hospital that you are going to use and make sure that they will allow it.
Don't do it... don't do it... don't do it. There is a reason that so many docs won't even attempt the VBACs. I know that it is a pet idea of many "feminists" out there to advocate for "all natural all the time" and the "anti-c-section" groups out there that just don't understand, no offense. I have a cousin who has been a NICU nurse for 2 decades and has seen first hand tragic outcomes of VBAC (about 10 years ago, that is, when docs were still performing them). My hubby is also a nurse who wouldn't just strongly advise against it, he'd actually intervene if a loved one were to try VBAC... I don't mean to offend anyone, but having so much of my family in the medical field, I have heard first-hand convincing evidence as to why these are so rarely performed.
Why risk it? C-sections, performed on otherwise healthy mothers who have gotten prenatal care, are far less risky that the VBAC.
Good luck... the 2nd c-section is always easier than the first, and they get easier after that, from what I hear. I've only had 2!
