Looking for Sweet Songs Written About or to Children, Especially Little Boys

I love Raffi's "All I really need is a song in my heart, food in my belly, and love in my family" Catchy little melody, too.

I've always loves "A New Day" by celine dion. And "arms wide open" by creed is quite beautiful too. It's more about the upcoming birth of a child but the hopes he sings about make me teary. Have fun and good luck!

There's a song from a little-known of-Broadway show called Starmites - "My Little Hero." I sing it to my almost-three-year-old every night before bed.

The best and first song that comes to mind is "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" by John Lennon, he wrote it for his son Sean.

It is a great song.

One of my favorites is "The One Who Knows" by Dar Williams, off of her album, The Beauty of the Rain. It could be sung to a boy or a girl. It is actually the song we danced the father/daughter--mother/son dance to at my wedding:

"Baby Mine" either by Bette Midler or Alison Kraus. I sing it every night to my 1 year old daughter and 3 year old son. Alison Kraus's version is better. The original song was from Dumbo.

Rod Stewart has a nice slow version of "Forever Young" on his "The Very Best of" CD (I think that is the one). Also Billy Joel's "Lullabye" is wonderful. The Pretenders "Loving You is All I know" is so sweet.

Raffi's "Quiet Time" CD version of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." Love that whole CD!

If the video highlights how special the day is for you too, Mom, then I don't think you can ever go wrong with 10,000 Maniacs, "These are the days." I'm sure whatever you choose will be spectacular!

I make a slide show every year for my son's birthday. He turned 3 in Jan. and finding songs for little boys is getting tougher! I saw someone had suggested My Wish by Rascal Flatts. It's beautiful! I cry everytime I hear it. I also used Forever young. I always have a section of my son with other members of the family and friends and I title it "People who love me". I've used How sweet it is to be loved by you by James Taylor, I hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack (another tear jerker), Moving right along by the muppets, Thank God for Kids by Kenny Chesney, You are the sunshine of my life by Stevie Wonder. There are several others and I can't remember them right now, but I hope these help :o)

I do slideshows of my kids every year as gifts to my parents and in-laws and I have used some great songs...just this year I did a tribute to my 3 year old son to Beautiful Boy... however, I used the Celine Dion version off of her "Miracle" album. It is a fantastic version and I liked it more because it was being sung from mother to son. In fact, check out that whole album... it has some really sweet songs. Some other great songs are "I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack, "My Wish" by Rascal Flats, "Beautiful Life" by Fisher, there's always the awesome "Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World" combo song by Iz.
One year I used all oldie/classic/kiddie songs like "A Bushel & A Peck", "Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby", A, You're Adorable", "Babyface" etc.... that year was a huge hit!!
Good luck finding the song that suits you/your son the best. I'd love to know what you end up using and/or if you find any other good ones as I am already thinking about next year's songs!!

One song that I think is so beautiful is "Baby of Mine" from the Disney movie Dumbo - my sister-in-law began singing that to my nephew from the moment he was born and still does (he's now 12) - I'm not sure if this is what your looking for, but figured I'd throw it out there. This is a really nice thing you'll be doing for your son - enjoy his big day!

At my preschool graduation last year I did a slide show to the song "Let them be little" everyone was in tears its a great song I am not sure of the artist. This year I am doing "There you'll be" by Faith Hill. There are so many great songs. "You are the sunshine of my life" You can go to a website like "You Tube" and type in love songs and then go through them to get ideas. Hope this helps and congratulations on your son's birthday.

I needed to pick a song for my son's Christening video and was thinking and thinking... what ended up being so special was using my wedding song--- the song was special for my husband and I and about love... not sur what song you used for your weddding, but that might be a nice way to bring everything full circle--- marriage and the love it created in your son...

There's a great song by Toby Keith (country artist) called "Heart to Heart". It's a beautiful song- my husband danced to it with his mother at our wedding- about a mother and her little boy. I get teary every time I hear it!

My son and I love to rock at night to a song called "Baby Mine" from the Disney "Lullabye" CD.

There are two that I know of - Dixie Chicks, GodSpeed (I sang that song while I was pregnant to my son) I still sing it to him. They also have another song called Lullaby. They are both great songs and would go well with a slide show of your little boy.

I love to see women who are older with childre, I'm 43 and our Louis is 3 y/o! For his birthday I made CDs for his friends. Deniece Williams has a beautiful CD: "Lullabies to DreamLand." Precious music for precious children! It's pretty old, but Google it! If u can't find it, I can burn a copy of mine and mail it to you. Btw, she is Christian, so the songs have a religious base to to it.

I second the vote for "Lullabye" by the Dixie Chicks and will toss another one out there: the Sheryl Crow version of Sweet Child of Mine.

There is a really sweet song by the DIXIE CHICKS CALLED GODSPEED (SWEET DREAMS). It is on their Home album.

There's a great CD called "Daddies Sing Goodnight," with a lot of good candidates by various artists. I particularly like "Little One." A couple of excerpts:

There's a good version of Forever Young by Audra Mae. Its really beautiful. If you have trouble finding it, you might search for music from season 1 of Sons of Anarchy.

How about the Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston?
It talks about the children being our future. It should be good for boys and girls. May the party be very nice.
