Hi, My kids love it when I read to them. We have quite a few good books, but they are getting so bored of them. I go to the library each week but usually only find a few great books each time I go. Do any of you have some favorite picture books that kids between the ages of 3 & 8 would love? Thank you!

What can I do next?

The librarian gave me a great idea - outstanding. Go on-line to any bookstore like Barns & Noble, etc. Select the children's books. This takes some time but worth it. Go through, write down their recommendations for your kids and look for specific books you think they would be interested in. You can then go to the Library's website and pre-order these books ... yahoo what a timesaver. Now when I don't have time to look through the books myself, I email a request for the books that I choose and the have them waiting for me. In the library near my home, the requested books are on shelves in the front. Your books will be together with your name on them. yipee you're done. Hope this helps.

Me: I'm Memaw to a 22m old grandson.

Your eight year old is probally ready for small chapter books. Their is a program in both school districts that they have been in called excellerator reading where they get points for books. On the list was the Series of "Hank the Cow Dog". We love them so does my brother's family and my sister's family. Believe me we're talking mult personalities here. Hank lives on a farm and thinks he head of ranch security and he really is sort of like Barney Fife, but each book is a different episode and we can't find out what happens next. Your three year old, I'm guessing till she is about 5 or 6 where she can get into chapter books like Ramona,or Junie B Jones or Amelia Bedilia I guess you just have to keep getting different varieties.

Why not make books for them- starring them! I find cute poems, then add photos of my child for each section of the poem. A book I have found that first gave me this idea is "My Brother, the Pest" by Margery Berstein. I use Heritage Makers to put the books together- they have a nice editor with tons of clipart for the backgrounds, etc. The books are hard bound, archival quality so they will last years and years. Here's the website I use: www.PublishFamilyStories.com . If you have any questions about putting a book together, contact me ###-###-####.
