Looking for Reliable and Affordable Childcare

Does anyone know of any childcare places that is affordable. I am new to the area so I don't have family or friends here yet to help with working and childcare. My son is four and I have noticed that everything in MA is so much more expensive than I am use to. I have my son in a Christian school and he loves it and it is less than 300 a month but they have so many vacations and 1/2 days that I am scared I am going to lose my job and in all honesty I need the money. Daycare don't want to watch children when schools are out because they need you to be full time income or nothing but I can't afford to pay there high fees even if I put him in daycare instead of the school. If you have any ideas please let me know.

What can I do next?

if you are only looking for a place that is only for the days off or for after hours of school, look into a babysitter, I did that when I used to work and my kids were little. Just make sure that they can drive and have some experience. It's also what I do now to help out my neighbors when they have days off from school and my kids are old enough now to help out.

L.- Try Bethel Child Care services they can provide you with a list of providers who allow drop in care. I am not sure where in MA you are, but we bring our daughter to a in-home day care in Springfield who allows drop in care.

L.,
I am in the same boat as you. The only thing that may help you is vouchers, have you tried to get them? There is also the head start program, I don't know if they have half days or not, but it probably won't hurt to look into it. I have a two and half year old, and affordable daycare is very hard to find. I qualify for vouchers, but by the time our name will get to the top of the waiting list, he will be in regular public school.
