How do you go about looking for a quality day care center? I am new to choosing day care and there are so many choices that I do not know where to start. What should I look for in a quality center? Where should I start? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

T.,

I myself recently became a new mom and the whole day care situation stressed me to the max. I am also somewhat new to the St. Louis area. I decided to go with in home child care due to price and size. But I did look in to some centers before I decided. If you go online, I think Babycenter.com has a list of queations you should ask a provider. If you are looking for in-home then try calling your local elementary schools and ask them if they have a list of childcare providers that you could have. (what I found is that a lot of the people on the list maybe only did before school or after school but knew other moms that did full time). I also looked in local dispatch papers. That is how I found my provider. People I'm sure have told you that you will just know what situation is best for you and I think to some degree you do. I will say that I still wasn't 100% sure about my provider but now that my daughter has been going there for about 3 months I can tell she's happy when she's there and they just adore my daughter.

I hope some of this helps.

Best of luck,

S. G.

On hwy K there is KidsPlay. They take from 2 years to age 10. My daughter goes there for preschool and she loves it. They are Missouri licensed and accredited.

I moved to St Peters recently and visited many daycares in and near O'Fallon. My top picks were #1 Kids R Kids on Hwy K, and #2 Kids Academy on Hwy N.
#1 is run like a school, very organized and very clean, everone seemed really nice (they normally have a waiting list). Internet monitoring is available so you can watch your child at any time.
#2 was my second choice, it is smaller but they are nice and organized on a smaller scale. They also have a waiting list.
Hope this helps.

My husband and I looked at several daycares in O'Fallon before deciding on ABC Daycare and Learning Center. My five month old has been going there for about 2 months now and I have been extremely happy with them. Even though it is a big facility, I feel that he is getting a lot of attention and care.

Hi T.! I have two children, they are 6 and 3. In my experience I would look for a center that is clean, and has some sort of alarm system. Where I currently go you have to have a code to open the door before you can get into the building. I would also look for a place where the different age groups are in seperate rooms. This is nice so the smaller children do not get trampled by the big kids. Also, I think the number 1 priority is a place where you feel comfortable with the staff and environment as soon as you get there. Make sure they are willing to show you EVERYTHING! Including the kitchen where they prepare the meals for the children. You want to see everything there is to see here before letting your child stay there! Hope this helps!!

I can help by referring you to my current day care provider. She has an opening right now in her in-home (her house) daycare, "Trisha's Kidz" 636-294-KIDZ (in O'Fallon). I completely lucked into finding her and even recommended her to my dearest friend who is now taking her 10 month old there. I highly recommend her if you are wanting a smaller more personnel daycare. Daycare was also a very hard decision for me I was wavering between Goddard and KinderCare. I still wasn't sure about sending my baby to a large daycare (would it be too much for her, too many kids, not enough love, care, and interaction) so I was very fortunate on finding Trisha who is now a big part of my babies life and it makes me feel wonderful knowing that somebody is loving her when I can't be there.
