Hi all.
My husband and I are hoping to get pregnant soon. I have a two-year old son who was born via C-section. We've moved here recently from out of state, so I need to find an OB in the area for my next pregnancy. I'm not super-determined to have a VBAC, but I'd like to have a doctor who is at least open to the option. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your advice. I turns out that I am now indeed pregnant! Through online research and local ICAN information, I was able to find a list of local doctors that are supportive of VBAC... and cross-referenced it with doctors who take my insurance. I was able to narrow it down to a list of seven doctors. Unfortunately, none of them were any of the doctors you ladies recommended. =( So, I am a bit closer, but still not sure who to pick out of these seven. I'm going to post another request to see if I can get any feedback on these doctors. Thanks again for all of your help!
Dr. Michaelson by Good Sam in Puyallup is by far the best around. he has a great bed side manner as well. good luck, J.

Dr. Karen Nelson is a wonderful doctor. She is in an office called Women to Women, located right across from Tacoma General.
She delieverd my last two children via c-section. She is out of Tacoma, so you would have to deliver at Tacoma General. Which is wonderful Hospital and Mary Bridge right there, god for bid you need them.
We had discussed the option of VBAC with my last, however it did not work out for me.

You might try calling the maternity center at hospital you wish to deliver, many of the nurses there would be happy to give you a referral. Since they work with the OB's every day,
they know more than most. Good luck.
I don't have a suggestion for someone in the Puyallup area, but my OB/GYN is in Tacoma. I live in Spanaway (almost Graham) and I went to her because she is awesome! She delivered my sister's son over 8 years ago and delivered my two kids (4yrs. and 21months). Her name is Clare Cammarano and she is with The Tacoma Women's Specialists down by Tacoma General hospital. There is a brick building called Jackson Hall across the street from the hospital and her office is in there. If you go with an OB/GYN in Puyallup you will most likely have to deliver at Good Samaritan. I've heard good and bad things about it, but my experience at Tacoma General was absolutely amazing. It's really not that far. Even if you decide to do the VBAC, you can definitely make it to the hospital in time. By the way, my two were both C-Section! I trust Dr. Cammarrano explicitly! After 3 tries trying to find an OB/Gyn that would actually listen to me I happened upon Dr. Jim Majors at Good Samaritan Women's Center. He is one of the best OBs I have ever seen, and I've seen my fair share.
The other posters are correct in saying that Good Sam doesn't suggest a VBAC (nor does Dr. Majors for that matter), but the facility there is wonderful (even for a small hospital) and the clinic (Good Sam Women's) is quite nice and relaxed.
Hello, The ladies are right, right now Good Samaritn in Puyallup no longer will deliver a mom naturally after a previous cesarean. Tacoma General however in downtown Tacoma will. I have also heard that Valley in Renton will as well. A great group to become part of that is semi-local but full of information and referrals is the Seattle ICAN Yahoo group. I see Dr. Michaelson down near Good Sam hospital. I have only seen him for the GYN stuff since I am done having kids, but he has a great bedside manner and is a great doc. I have other friends that see him and that is how I came to be his patient. My friends could not say enough good about him. HIs office number is ###-###-####. I loved Dr. Michaelson on Meridian. He and his staff (very important to me) were cheerful and extremly compentent. I also had C-sections and he gave me the option to try vaginal. By the way, Dr. Gant retired. I used him once as well.

I don't know his thoughts on VBAC as that was unfortunately not an option for me. Personally, we had a personality conflict but care wise he is excellent. His wife is his nurse and she is just as sweet as can be.

I would definately say to stay as far away from Good Sam as possible.
Look up Midwife Ann. She is out of Eatonville, and works w/ the Eatonville hospital. My chiropractor is going for a VBAC, and after much searching has decided to go that route, as everyone else she has spoken to has not been supportive. YOu can find midwife ann listed here on Mamasource.
A second vote for Paul Eun! He just did my c-section in March, and he was fabulous!! I couldn't believe how fast it went, and I had zero complications.
However, if you are even entertaining the idea of a VBAC (which I really wanted, but decided against due to a pregnancy complication), Good Sam does NOT allow them. The only hospital in Pierce County where you can VBAC at is Tacoma General Hospital. I have no idea which doctors deliver there, but I don't think Dr Eun does.
If you opt for the repeat section, Good Sam was absolutely amazing. Great nurses (although I had issues with shift changes and them remembering my pain medication), pretty good food, and a fantastic anesthia doctor.
