I absolutely loved my OB for my daughter, Dr. Samantha Kehoe. She's a resident at the U of MN Women's Clinic, so she's not quite a full doctor yet, but personally, I think the residents do a better job and take more time with you. I delivered at Fairview Riverside hospital and Dr. Kehoe was even willing to come back in at 2:30 in the morning when I was getting ready to deliver, even though she was no longer on call and should have been home sleeping. If you want to see her, you just need to call either the U of MN Women's Clinic or Riverside Women's Clinic through Fairview (www.fairview.org).

I have been with my OBGYN/Family Practice Doctor for nearly 15 years and I love her! She is very open-minded and combines holistic practices with traditional medicine. She takes as much time with me as I need, listens well, and is just wonderful!

i will also advise you to find a midwife at the u of mn or united. most hospitals have a group of midwives that you can see. they take the time with you, and are very caring, in my experience.

I had the same experience with my first pregnancy. I went 8 months seeing an OBGYN that rushed through appointments and didn't get to know me. She was very smart but had no personality. I ended up having to schedule with another Dr. one day when she was going to be out of town and the only person available was a midwife. I had more fun in that appointment than I had in 8 months! She sat down with my husband and I and spent the first 20 minutes talking to us. She was so great that I saw her for the rest of my pregnancy and decided to deliver with the midwife group at Regions Hospital. What a change! And I always had at least 2 midwives with me during the labor and delivery coaching me and talking me through the process. I would definately recommend a midwife to anyone especially for a first pregnancy when you're not sure what to expect. Good luck!

I went to a family practice physician. This way, she not only was with me for my pregnancies/deliveries but also is my primary physician for me and my boys. She is located in the Allina clinic in Cottage Grove (Dr. Peggy Sullivan). I have seen her for years (14 to be exact). She is great. She does on occassion get rushed but she will sit with you for as long as you need if you have questions. She delivers at United. Both of my boys were delivered there and both experiences were good ones.

If you are comfortable with who you are with now, have you tried mentioning the fact that you feel rushed. Physician's tend to rush through the appointments not because they don't care but because they schedule so many appointments in a day. If you bring up how you are feeling she may be more inclined to slow it down a bit. Another piece of advice, schedule your appointments later in the day or right after lunch. All times that I have noticed are less rushed.

I delivered both my boys at United and go to the Allina clinics in Eagan. My OB/GYN was Dr. Amy Fischer, two years ago, and she was great. She took time to answer my questions and talk to me. And she was very "down to earth". If you call ###-###-#### they can help you. Good luck!!!!

Congratulations J.. I was seeing Dr. Diana Saari at University of Minnesota Physicians, University Specialists in Women's Health ###-###-####. I liked her a lot but switched to seeing the midwives at the clinic, which is located next to Fairview Riverside Hospital in Mpls. I switched to the midwives b/c I heard that midwives spend more time with you at appts and during labor and b/c my pregnancy was not high risk (though I was classified as "AMA" advanced maternal age - I was 38 when I had my son in August). Ann Forster-Page was the midwife who helped deliver my son and she was great. I also had a doula (Kathy Chinn) - the best $600 I've ever spent. Best wishes on your journey into motherhood!! i see dr. elizabeth eckhardt at fairview riverside women's clinic (she also practices at fairview highland park). she is absolutely phenomenal. i began seeing her while pregnant with my first child in 2003-04 and then again with my youngest in 2005-06. she delivers at fairview riverside. let me know if you would like any other information. i have recommended her countless times and consider her to be a trusted soul and friend.

I would highly recommend either Dr. Christine Wesely or Dr. Pam Noll, both of the Fairview Uptown Clinic, and they both deliver at Fairview Riverside, which is the U hospital I think you are referring to. They are both family practice docs, but do a lot of deliveries and the nice thing is that they actually deliver their own babies, not some other doc who happens to be on call. I saw both during my pregnancy (Wesely is my regular doc, but was out on maternity leave during a chunk of my pregnancy) and Dr. Noll delivered my baby. I never felt rushed with either of them. Dr. Noll was pregnant though too at the end of my pregnancy so she may now be out on leave.

If you want time, you may be happy with a midwife. Does your insurance have any particular networks?

I would recommend Dr. Ann Megas at Fairview Women's Clinic. She also has clinic hours at Fairview Hiawatha in south Mpls. She delivers at Fairview Riverside. You should know though that the Fairview OBs share delivery duty. So when it comes time to go to the hospital you get the doctor on duty and that may or may not be your OBGYN. If you are not comfortable with that arrangement then take others suggestions and get a midwife or doula.

Are you for sure you want to deliver at the U or United? If you are willing to consider another hospital, I HIGHLY recommend St. Joe's downtown St. Paul, and the midwives at Generations Women's Clinic (or the OB there Dr. Laura France). I've used the midwives and they are AMAZING! So much different than the experience I had using an OB with my first. Midwives generally spend more time with you, and you have a more personal experience than with an OB.

Congratulations! I am also a first time expectant mom, due end of August. Have you considered a midwife instead of an obgyn? I used to see an obgyn, but since becoming pregnant I decide to go with a midwife. I often felt rushed during my doctors appointment with the obgyn. I am pleased with my midwife; she spends more time with me, answering questions and educating me on what to expect and reassures me when I have concerns. I will be delivering at the U of M, Fairview Riverside. There's an awesome women's clinic kitty corner from there, Fairview Riverside Women's Clinic. They have an awesome team of midwives.
