How would I go by trying to get new clientele?I use to work and train with Toni&Guy for 4 years. Then I worked at Ulta for another 5.
Then when the economy went down I decided to take what clients I have and lease my station.Been steady but I think it could be better.Ive tried asking for referrals but it seems like its just not like how it use to be.What should I do?I don't want to go backwards and go work for anyone..Help!

What can I do next?

Do you have a facebook page for your business? You could spread the word that way and offer special deals when you know you are going to be slow. Or offer a new customer discount. Give people an incentive to refer clients to you--get some business cards printed on Vistaprints (which is cheap or sometimes free) with your info and a line that says "referred by" If someone comes in with the card, they get a "free shampoo" or something and the person who referred them gets something free too. Good luck!

My stylist offeres a discount if you bring in your printed referrals online.

She has her car " wrapped" with her info... Traveling advertisement!

Donate services to your local school PTA for their silent auction fend raiser.

Buy an ad at the school PTA directories which are distributed to PTA members.

Our HOA website has an option for advertising for services as well as a Facebook page.

Think outside the box!!! Good luck

Tweet & FB. Ask your current clients if you can take there pictures and post them. Volunteer at a charity event for back to school hair cuts or something like that! Give & Leave business cards at beauty supplies, nail shops, clothing boutiques, etc.. Give a discount with your business card or discounts for refferrals. If you give a little you will gain more. Finally make sure your hair looks fabulous so that people will want to know where you get it done... Another opportunity to give out another card!!! You Go Girl!!!

You could offer a deal (10% off, free shampoo, etc) if they bring in a friend.

Have you tried partnering up with Groupon type discount/coupon sites? I've noticed a lot of businesses that are either new or need a boost that offer deals in that manner.
