Just wondering if anyone knows of any Mom & baby swim classes in SE Portland or nearby? My daughter is almost 8mo old & I would like to start some classes to get her used to the water? Thanks.

What can I do next?

We started taking Olive at 7 months. We started at the SE Community Center. Our Dr. told us that it was a lower chlorine pool (or at least not as much as some of the swim schools). We loved it and took her back at 10 months as well. It's a super nice pool with family changing rooms and the teachers were all really great that we had! Relatively affordable too. I think it was around $40 for 4-5 weeks at twice a week. The first sessions we did every week night for 2 weeks straight. They were both good options but I think going every night was a little bit of a burn out for me...the class was right around "dinner time." Anyway, check it out! It's a very nice center.

You might try DolFun Swim Academy. They do immersion swimming and it is a great program. They hold classes in NE Portland near the airport. You can find out more info. at www.dolfunswimacademy.com (note dolfun is with an fun, not phin).

We have been swimming with them since my daughter was 3 months and son 4 months. My daughter is 4 now and knows how to do the butterfly, crawl, backstroke, and breast stroke. She is still practicing these skills and getting better each time. They also work on rhythmic breathing at a fairly young age.

It is really cool how they break down strokes and breathing to make it work for the small child.

Happy swimming,
D.

Look at the Portland Parks and Recreation web site. Each of their pools have swimming "lessons" for little people with their parent/guardian. I believe the infant has to be at least 6 months old but I'm not postitive. Also, check North Clackamas Aquatic Center. They have a less organized "Parent/Pre-school" swim time that might work for you.
