Looking for Midwives or Great Ob/gyn's in Shreveport

I'm looking for a midwife, or an EXCEPTIONAL OB/GYN in the Shreveport area. I've had really bad luck in the past with large practices, as I've felt like I wasn't really "listened" to, and rushed in and out of the office. I delivered my son with a midwife in June of 2002, and was disappointed. I really wanted a natural birth, but she only came in three times to check on me (and then to deliver) and I ended up caving and getting an epidural. I had my daughter in February of 2004, and managed a natural birth only because I stayed home as long as I possibly could....my OB arrived, delivered, and disappeared. Neither provider followed my birth plan *what was the point of that again?* and I'm not even sure they ever looked at it. I'd like baby number three, due in June, to actually go the way I'd like for a change! This is going to be the last one, and I'm really hoping to find someone outstanding that will go along with a drug free birth, and hopefully a water birth if its available!

What can I do next?

We are using Kristi Michael w/ Pierremont OB-Gyn Specialists (in Willis Knighton Pierremont). She is WONDERFUL! Her staff is great, and you don’t have to wait forever to see the ultrasound tech. Whenever I have questions, she and her staff are just a call away. She will ask what your plans are, and make sure that you get all of your questions addressed. You will always know what to expect. My husband and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about her!

Are you looking for a midwife who works in a hospital or a homebirth setting? There are no midwifes who work in the hospital that I know of but I do know a few midwifes who do homebirths here in Shreveport. Let me know what you are looking for and maybe I can help more.

I reccomend Dr.Jacque LaBarre. I had a ton of gyno problems and went through many ( come to find out) uneccessary procedures. I had a string of bad Drs. I walked into his office unsure. He actually listened!! Throughly examined my records, did an exam, and had to schedule a surgery to save most of my reproductive system within 48 hrs thanks to the other Drs lack of attention. He has since seen me through a very hard battle with time pressed secondary infertility( it was him that found the magic combo rather than the specialist) a hard pregancy, and a hard hysterrectomy. All this at 26. He listened and even when he saw me almost every day for problems with my wound ( caused by the on call doc-my former ob) he was sweet and caring. He delivers at Wk pierremont or Schumpert Highland. His office is in pierrmont.
P.s. Mid- City Pediatrics ( DR. Robert Haynie) are the best pediatricians in town!!

I really liked my OB. His name is Dr. James Boyd and he is over at Christus Schumpert. He is the only OB in his practice so he has the time to develop a relationship with his patients. His RN is really good too. I felt like both took the time to listen to my questions and I never felt rushed out of the office. He also delivers all of the babies of his patients. I was never able to figure out how he was able to do that because he is the only docter but whatever. I did opt to have an epidural, but that was my choice. He didn't try and talk me into it nor did I feel like he would. I was induced, an idea I wasn't orignally wild about, but I was so uncomfortable (my baby was 23 inches long when he was born and I am not a big person) that I didn't debate him on it when he said how about we take this baby out on Wednesday. When I go to have my 2nd i'll probably try and go into labor naturally but we'll see. I also didn't have a birth plan, but Dr. Boyd is pretty laid back and I found him pretty accepting of any ideas that I had. He is a man of very few words which puts off some women, but I always felt like I was in good hands. Also he delivers at Schumpert, which was WONDERFUL. The nursery nurses were absolutly amazing. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
