You can get help from social services. They have housing they give people who are in your situation. Go to the health department and tell them your situation and they can help guide you in the right direction. I think it is shameful people are using this site to advertise their ventures to people who are looking for help. But that is why those people have to advertise, they are unsucessful. Dont fall for those things. Their are legitimate things like data entry for stay at home moms the labor department can help you find. Stick with state run agencies. You will get through this, keep your chin up.

I am in the same boat that you are. I am 25 and a single mom to my 4 year old daughter, and after struggling to try to live on my own, i had to move back in with my family. I dont exactly like it, but it has to work for now. If you look around, there are a lot of subsidized housing places that can help you with your rent. Or go to your social services office and ask about subsidized housing. They should be able to steer you in the right direction about affordable housing.

K., i was once in your situation. i am 30 with 3 kids and a single parent also. i live in pine brook. where are you now, what town? i also work for a non profit agency as a social worker part time. it is very expensive in morris county and nj in general. i wish i knoew of something. you can apply for affordable housing in some counties. morris is one. let me know and maybe i can tell you more if you want . the list are very long. good luck. well I to am a single mom. I went through alot and was in a simular situation. Although I never went back home I was living in a 1 bedroom apt till my daughter was 3. It was not in a very good neighborhood. I lived next to a bar and listend to it all night i even had a drunk in my hallway. I thought there was no way out. I applied for a program called belmont and they told me i would have to wait 5 years. Others told me to give up my apartment and go to a shelter and i would get it right away. I didnt i stuck it out the 5 years. I had moved from the one bedroom to a 2 bedroom apt in buffalo and stayed there just barly making it. While i was there I found the basment was full of black mold. My daughter was so sick and got pnemonia several times. Now i felt really stuck there was no way to get out i couldn't affard anything more. That mothers day i got a letter in the mail saying my 5 years was up and i could start recieving help with my rent. THAT WAS THE BEST MOTHERS DAY GIFT A MOM COULD ASK FOR. I moved into a apt complex and it is much better. I pay only a fraction of my rent 200.00. It is 840 square feet and in a good school district. I know things are not easy but in the end it will all work out. I had my doughts to but i just kept moving on. If you have any more questions i would be glad to help you.

You MUSt be the answer to my prayers. I too, have been looking to room with another mother. The cost of living is excruciatingly(?)high and I now live with myself and 2 boys in a 1 bedroom. Their ages are 9 and 2. I was thinking of renting a house with another mother. I have gone on Craigslist but have yet to encounter any one. The only advise that I can give you is to get into a shelter
if you do they will help you get a low income apt that you would be able to afford. I was in your situation a long time ago and as much as it hurt it was the only way for me to get my own apt. it is a big sacrafice but in the end when you get your own place it will all be worth it. when I got in the shelter my son was 3yrs old and my daughter was 2yrs old.
when you get into your own apt they help with furnitre money.you should consider this option because you have nothing to loose.

Income based housing can be a lifesaver.With my hubby's medical condition i have to be home to help with him & kids so we have just his disabilty.There are a few different types of it .We live in a decent 4 bedroom where market value would be around $900/mnth but based on our income we don't pay rent..You really don't want to share a place.

I am actually buying my home through cornerstone homes. You can put down a low down payment and make monthly payments. In the end you own your home. www.cornerstonehomes.com. I have a 5 bedroom home, in on a land contract for 15 years, and I only pay 465.00 a month.

I live in Poughkeepsie, NY, I don't now how close that is to you. I live in subsidized housing. The way it works is so simple. You have to income qualify to actually be approved to live in the apartment. Once you're in, you can never be asked to leave if you make more than the maximum. Based on your income, the rental office decides how much you will pay for rent. BAsed on my income, I pay $762 a month. If "fair market rent" for the apartmet is considered $850, the owners of the building get to write off on their taxes the difference between my rent and the market rent. So, they get to write off $88 a month for the whole year. We live in a beautiful 2 bedroom apt, and their is so much space. Their is many children around, a good school district, a good area, a playground, and the grounds are kept so clean! You should look into that in your area. Hope this helps!
