Looking for Lactation Specialist/support Northwest Burbs of Chicago

Hi Moms:
My daughter delivered her baby a week ago. The breastfeeding is going well and baby is gaining. She is
just miserable with soreness with her nipple area. She is using breast shields sometimes and comfort gels
and cream. She thinks the baby is latching on properly but could probably use someone to come
over and check the baby's positioning. The hospital gave her some lists of specialists but I was wondering
if anyone knew of someone who was very positive and supportive?

What can I do next?

I used this woman Carol Chamblin from St. Charles but she came the whole way to Park Ridge. Lactation consultants are kind of expensive -- just as a warning....http://www.breastbabyproducts.com/.... she might be better off calling the local La Leche League leader and seeing if they have someone that can help her before paying. At a week it is normal to still have that kind of pain for most (unfortunately) -- my pain never did give up with baby #1 and I quit after 4 mos of excruciating pain -- nothing we did, including finger feeds to loosen her suck, curve her tongue, helped. I successfully nursed baby #2 12 mos with everything I learned. Best wishes to your daughter and her newborn!

I do not know how to contact this person, but there was an IBCLC who used to post regularly when this site was Mamsource. I think her name is Patricia Drazin (Patricia D. was her screen name).

Call NIMC in McHenry and ask for Molly...she is great!! your daughter would have to go to the hospital for their free lacatation assistance..well worth it! I struggled too but nursed until 10 mo and am so grateful I stuck with it..

Central DuPage Hospital has great lactation consultants. But that's a little far from you. Maybe check at your local hospital. I'm sure they have some there.

I would call the LL leaders for the Crystal Lake Group, they could refer you to someone good. Unfortunately I know from experience that the LC from Sherman are not all good....there was one but she wasn't around when I had my first. They will see you back in the hospital too if need be.

Here are the numbers for the leaders in Crystal Lake:

* Erika, ###-###-####, email ____@____.com
* Kathy, ###-###-####, email ____@____.com
* Brenda, ###-###-####, email ____@____.com
* Beth, ###-###-####

Also, I am not an LC, but if she is that sore baby is probably not latching right. I had terrible pain and soreness and even some bleeding and crying out in pain when my son would latch (on the off chance that he actually did) and it was not right. One thing I think is helpful are these videos to show what a correct latch looks like. Make sure the babies lips are flanging/flaring out and he is taking as much breast into his mouth as possible.
