Hi Ladies,

My mom is interested in finding a class or lesson of some sort that she could take with my 5 year old son. Something interactive that they could do together. Has anyone found anything like this for this age range?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Not sure if you're in the FW area, but the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens has a super fun Green Thumb Club. I just went to the website http://www.fwbg.org/green_thumb.htm
and it hasn't been updated beyond summer info, but in the past they have offered a weekly class in the afternoon hours just after most schools are dismissed. My mom and my son really liked it. They did walks and craft activities for fall using things found in nature and other fun stuff.

Do you live around Fort Worth, TX? The museum of natural science and history offers classes for children - possible for your age child - it's been awhile for me - but check that possibility, OK? Also, ask around if there are activities offered by local home schooling groups...

P.S. What is your youngster interested in? I chose to get into my son's world - if it was dinosaurs, we checked out books and visited stuff re: dinos; if it was rocks, we went for walks and looked at rocks and collected them; if it was gardening, we planted things in the garden....

What about going to the library after school and reading books? Remember, Mimi was a teacher first so she could be a huge asset to his education. Maybe the library for a few hours and then ice cream or something afterwards. Just an idea.

Cooking classes for all ages is always fun. There are pottery places where you make your own stuff that is geared towards children. Ummm... swimming lessons, scrapbooks, painting. I go more for things that brings out my child's creative side. Anything I can think of that we can make together or she can make by herself on her time, it's always rewarding for everyone. And you never know, you could find that you have an architect, painter, sculptor, swimmer, etc... in your family.

What about a drawing or art class? Or, painting at Color Me Mine (in Flower Mound). Color Me Mine has a monthly calendar with different activities each month. They may have classes, too.
