Hi! My husband, son and I are moving for my husband's job to the area and are trying to get an idea of good places to be. Neither of us know the area at all, but he got a job in Hopewell, NJ. Due to taxes and our budget, we are thinking about possibly living near Yardley, PA, but have considered Morrisville, PA as well as Ewing, NJ and several others. Any suggestions or places we should steer clear of? We are going on a house hunting trip next weekend and want to have an idea where to begin. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I think Yardley is pretty expensive, though I haven't looked at prices there in detail. We live in East Amwell Township, which is about 10 minutes north of Hopewell. It is a rural area with a lot of horse farms and a K-8 school that people seem to like (my son is set to start k-garten this fall, so I haven't experienced the school yet). The people are an eclectic mix--middle-class families, retired executives, farmers, wealthy land owners. I like that fact that there is a lot of unspoiled natural beauty here, yet there are so many things to do within minutes in every direction. I had been living in major cities for 15 years before settling here, and now I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Taxes are a big issue, however. But taxes here are lower than most other surrounding areas in NJ (still outrageous, though).

i'm not sure about yardley, but be careful about morrisvile and ewing. both have nice areas but they also have bad areas too. i lived in ewing in the "in-between" area and it was ok.

I don't know much about the area that you are looking in, but I have been to Ewing & a big part of it is not a good area & you might want to steer clear of that area, at least the Trenton side. Good luck!!

I went to school in Hopewell and moved to Hamilton,NJ after I got married since it is def. more affordable for us. We live in Hamilton and love it - we live in an area called Hamilton Square... a cute little town, good school districts, friendly neighbors, and it is only about 15-20 minutes from Hopewell. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Like others have said, areas of Ewing and West Trenton can be nice, but I am not too sure about the school district once you hit the high school. Yardley is very nice, Langhorne, PA is nice.

I would suggest avoiding Ewing! I've lived in the area for years, and I've found the cheapest area that isn't "trashy" is Hamilton, Yardville & Bordentown areas. Great school districts! Living "across the bridge" in Morrisville, Levittown areas is an option to see if you can save any money on taxes and insurance, but I don't know the schools to be of good quality. I understand the Yardley area to be pricey, as well as the Hopewell/Ewing/Pennington areas.

I must admitt I was a little surprised to read all the bad opinions about Ewing. Of course there are many "trashy" areas here but I live near Villa Victoria Academy (a very good private school) and this is a great neighbourhood. Especially when you like to go for walks, runs or bike rides - there is a great path along Raritan Canal. I really enjoy living here. Also according to my neighbours who have 4 children school age - a very good school district. So - there you go. Good luck.

Definitely avoid Ewing. The area is starting to get bad, and the school district is not that good. Morrisville is no gem either. Yardley and Newtown are nice, but expensive. Most of Hamilton is nice. Langhorne, Pa is nice and affordable with a good school district. Good luck.
