Looking for Great Pediatrician in Federal Way

Hi,

I'm looking for a pediatrician for our boys, we do currently have one but she is lacking. We don't have any immediate serious health issues or concerns currently but I cannot see communication going very well if we do have a situation and I feel reluctant to discuss even minor issues as her attitude is dismissive of them and a little defensive of my further questioning. I am indeed thankful that their problems are not serious and general health is good, but I was hoping she would be better with a longer acquaintance. I also realize feeling reluctance to discuss concerning symptoms, illness, injuries, pains or whatever is not in their best interest.

Our previous doctor retired - Dr. Almquist aka "happy doctor", from Virginia Mason. He listened to my concerns, always immediately interacted with the boys to observe them and develop a relationship with them -- his patients, did not rush me, did explain details, and viewed their health rather holistically.

So, I really appreciate your referrals and hope you can also give me some insight into your favorite doc. Thank you mamas!!

So What Happened?

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for your pediatrician referrals. They are very much appreciated! I checked with my insurance and although all are covered I think we'll go with Pediatrics NW, locally in Fed Way with maybe an opportunity to go meet Dr. Clapper too.
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We love Dr. Ory and Apostle at Peds NW. They are in the pavillion near St. Francis. I'm sorry you lost your ped...that would be very hard. I actually had Dr. Almquist on m list 9 years ago....dh chose Peds NW, as his brother uses them in Tacoma. Dr. Ory is probably in his mid 50's, Apostle much, much younger!!! Both are great. If ever Ory is not available I have NO problem asking for Apostle.

Hi S.,

We use Dr. Andrea Fasullo, who is also at Virginia Mason in Federal Way. She's been great with our 6 year old daughter and I have never felt more comfortable talking to a doctor than I am with her! I have always felt like she listens to any of our concerns and helps to find a solution. She's never dismissed any of my worries or complaints. I would recommend her to anyone! The phone number listed for her on Virginia Mason's website is ###-###-####.

If you're willing to drive to Tacoma, Dr. Brian Berry with Franciscan Medical group is AWESOME. And his nurse Karen is exceptional as well. His office is in University Place. We live in Kent but commute to see him because he is so good.

My kids too had Dr. Almquist. He really connected with my kids and spoke to them directly. Loved it! We started using Dr. Fox and loved him too. Don't know if he's still there (kids too old for pediatrics now), but if he is give him a try. He's young, but does listen and connected with my daughter. Good luck! I know how important it is to have the right doctor for your kids. - C.

Hi S.,

Aahhh! I just wrote a long response and then accidently erased it! :( So, this will be shorter than my original... We live in the NE Tacoma/Federal Way area, but I make the drive over to one of the Tacoma offices with Pediatrics NW. We see Dr. Clapper and love him! You can tell that he really likes kids and loves what he does. He has always taken my questions and concerns seriously and has often given me much more information than what I thought he would give. Usually if we can't get in to see Clapper, we usually go to the Federal Way office by St. Francis. Here's Pediatric NW's website if you would like to check it out: http://www.pedsnw.net/
