We live downtown and do not want to send our sons to IPS. We're looking for a good place to send the children that isn't going to cost us an arm and a leg.

What can I do next?

I'm not sure how far out of the way ot would be, maybe 15 minutes, but my son goes to Little People's Prep on 27th and Arlington (also known as Arlington Elementary, but it is a private school, going up to 6th grade). It is a year round school, semester started July 17th this year and will go through until the end of May. They do Christmas plays and the whole 9 yards, he loves it there and is learning how to write his name and how to write the whole alphabet. I have been very impressed. He is only 4 and in the pre-k program, but they do letters and numbers everyday, and even when school is not in session they have structured play time, not sitting in front of the TV or doing nothing all day. The teachers are great, and lunch is provided, you can get breakfast at an additional cost. The cost per week is only $94 (which is cheap compared to a lot of other places) and includes all winter break care, summer care, before and after care, is open from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday. I have dealt with some bad daycares, and this one has been great! It does sit in one of the "emerging neighborhoods", but the kids are safe, well taught and love it! His behavior alone has improved 100% since he started there last May, not to mention how quickly he is learning. You can reach them at ###-###-#### if interested.

My daughter went last year to kindergarten at Henry Burkhart and she loved it. Both of the kindergarten teachers are very nice. It is located on U.S. 31 and Epler.

Hi im not sure what is close to you,but you might look for a Charter School. This is the 2nd year for my kid's and it is a lot better then IPS.The best part is that it doesn't cost a thing,it's free.My kid's go to the in Irvington,I'm not sure if there is one downtown or not. Seems like soneone said there was so you might want to check into it.
Good Luck and let me know how it goes.

Hi S.,

If you want something private, you could try the local Catholic schools near downtown, like Good Shepherd or Holy Name in Beech Grove. Holy Angels is at 28th and MLK Jr. and St. Thomas is at 46th and Illinois. Most if not all also have afterschool care if you need it.

Good luck! :)
