Hi,
We will be moving to the Northbrook area in July from a small town in NC (and we're terrified)can anyone give me an idea what the schools are like? My daughter will be in Meadowbrook in 2nd grade and from everything I read online, it seems like a great school. Does anyone know how great the afterschool care is?

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
Welcome to the Chicago area! My parents moved to Northbrook from Wilmette while I was in college. They love Northbrook. You can't go wrong with the schools. I have 3 siblings who went to school there. My parents were very happy with the schools. You also can't go wrong with the availability of stores and services. You are also close to a couple different highways and major thouroughfares so you can get to many places easily. There are many good pediatricians, hair salons etc. Good luck and enjoy!

Hi D.,

I'm sure this will not ease your worries, but lighten up a little. Chicago is a great city and Northbrook is a very nice safe suburb of Chicago. There is lots to do here and the schools are good.

Hi D.
I just moved to Northbrook last summer, but it was from another suburb in Chicago (Evanston), so I knew a little bit about it first.
So far we love it. The schools are spectacular, and your kids are going to be attending the best one. District 28 is the 'best district' according to everyone I've talked to, even moms from other districts. Our kids will be going to Meadowbrook, too, but not for a while (they are only 2).
So if you're in District 28, you're probably living in the nicest 'area' of Northbrook, too. Not that there are any bad areas, it's just nice to be closer to 'downtown'. Its a small downtown -- great park.
I don't know much about the after school programming, but check out the Northbrook website http://www.northbrook.il.us/index.asp or http://www.northbrook.info/index.php And check out the northbrook park district http://www.nbparks.org/index.html
Maybe you can still get your kids into one of the camps this summer -- probably a good way to meet people, too.
Good luck! Email me if you have any more questions!

I live in Glenview which is right below northbrook. We actually live right on the border of the two cities. I moved here in June from Va beach, Va. We love it! There is plenty to do. We are close enough to the city to enjoy it, but far enough away to avoid the noise and big city life. From what I have heard the schools in northbrook and glenview are great. I have been checking in to them for a friend that is moving here with 16 and 11 year old sons. Sorry I do not have more info about them my son is only 10 months. Good luck to you and if you have any more questions feel free to write.
