I live in Jacksonville Florida around the southside area. Looking for new fun things to do around town. Getting a little restless during the day and sick of doing the same old same old if anyone can relate.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the good advice. I am def excited to try out some of the places everyone suggested. I went to the hands on kids museum on monday he really liked that. It seemed a little run down but he had fun. We went to the pool on tuesday and today we went to the town center walked around and went to barnes and noble. I feel better when I get out of the house. I just have to make my self do it. I work at night so alot of times I am tired during the day but I feel better being on the go. Thanks again everyone.

On Beach there is a childrens museum called Hands On. We haven't been yet but I got a pamphlet from someone at my son's DayCare. Looks great.

Hope this helps some more.

Hi K.,

My kids always love the zoo, the MOSH, and the beach. My best recommendation is to head to the library and check out "Family Fun on Florida's First Coast." The authors are Jenny Conway and Paige Howell. It is packed full of ideas covering Jax, St. Augustine, Orange Park, and Amelia Island.

Hope this helps.

Kristen,

I have a 21 month old daughter. We go to Gymboree at the mall every week, and also go to toddler time at the Mandarin library location off of Kori Rd. Both are GREAT! Gymboree is pricey, but so worth it! (The library is free and is every Wednesday from 10:30a - 11a). I know it can be daunting trying to entertain a child this age. I'm glad you asked, though, as I would love to add some additional activities to our week!

Find a moms group! They will have lots of things for you to do, especially in the summer! I am with Mothers & More, and LOVE it. Check out www.mothersjax for more info.

If that one doesn't seem like a good fit, then find another. Most of the local publications have a listing of "playgroups" or "moms groups" in them.

Good luck!

Hi Kristen, I just sent in a similar request about my daughter and i think you can look up the ideas that were sent to me but if not email me back and i will forward to you. In addition to those i went to our local library and they have story time for toddlers once a week so you might want to check yours out to see if they offer the same. I have also heard that taking them to the pet store is fun to look at the birds and fish and other animals they might have there. I have also started doing a creative play time schedule. During the day we sit together and do puzzles, then later I bring out the play-doh, and then we have music/dance time and then story time. I do not do it all in a row. In between we will play outside or go for a walk or she just plays by herself. I have found it breaks up the day and my daughter loves the one on one activities. Good luck and have fun!

You can always join a local playgroup...:) There are so many in Jax!! Go to Yahoogroups.com and do a search, or try meetup.com, also.

You could try stopping by your local park and chit chatting it up with other parents...great way to get some playmates and friends...

If your not looking to join a playgroup, you have fun things, like--mall play areas, the beach, parks, YMCA, storytimes, nature walks and discussions at varies places---If you need more ideas, just email me--I have lots! :)

I own a playgroup here, also...check it out!

Hey
I work for a wonderful place in Orange Park called O2b Kids & they have playgroups for ages 0-5 on tues & thurs this summer. The play group lasts from 10 AM-12 noon, you get to interact with other parents & your child while enjoying an educational puppet show, gym, art & music classes. I wish I had O2b arround when my kids were young. The prices are reasonable. Hope this helps.

Have you tried taking him to the beach? Its free and most kids absolutely love it. I take my son (28 mo)a couple times a week- we dont even go in the water, he just loves to run, play in the sand, chase the birds and collect seashells. As it gets hotter you might want to consider Hannah Park out in Mayport. From 8am to 10am it is a dollar per person, after that $3 per car. They have a wonderful splash park and you cant beat the price.
You also might want to check out story time at the library and Books a Million. Or think about getting a pass to the zoo if you dont have one and can afford it. Good Luck!
