Hi Mom,

I'm wondering if anyone knows what websites or where I can look for some financial relief. My husband recently was laid off (Union Carpenter) and I'm a full-time Homemaker. We don't have any kind of slush fund and our mtg just went up (due to increase in taxes). I've already applied for assistance with our food and have been accepted, and my husband applied for unemployment but this isn't gonna cover the bills that needs to be paid. I really don't think filing for bankruptcy will help, I have a family member that is already helping with that portion. I've started looking for a job and so has my husband if anyone knows of anything please let me know. I don't know where else to turn. I'm looking for anything like receptionist, administrative, etc. and my husband well again he's a Union Carpenter

I just found a website called TheLadder.com
It is not a financial web site but it is a jobs website.
For jobs that pay higer salaries. I figured it could not hurt to look. If I gave you the wrong website, I put in the search engine Ladder, and a few choices came up.
Good Luck. I hope everything works out.

Illinois Liheap helps pay for your gas and electric bills I believe. Google them for an application. And you can get medical insurance for your kids from Allkids (google them as well). Maybe even for yourselves.

Hi E.!

I was layed off after returning from maternity leave about a year ago. Thankfully, I had my part-time business. I applied to numerous companies, but EVERYONE is doing the same. So I decided to make my part-time business into full-time.

I'm a mother to a 4 year old and an 1 year old (both girls). I love staying home with them and having the opportunity to work as little or as much as I like.

I am a Pampered Chef Consultant. I started with them back in August 2007 when I was 7 months pregnant. There's nothing to it. The products sell it's self and you have FUN in the process. Consultants make around $100 per show (about 2 hours). The Pampered Chef is a great company with great people to help you achieve your dreams. You'll never have to worry about meeting a high sales quota or getting fired.

Let me know if this is something you may be interested in. I would love to have you on my team!

Good Luck!

Your best bet is to try temp agencies, or craigslist. I posted an ad on craigslist and briefly described what some of my qualifications were and within 24 hours I was at several agencies interviewing and I'm now working with government office as a temp with possibility of becoming permanent. Also for assistance try CEDA for LIHEAP program to help you out with your light and gas, their website is CEDAORG.NET lots of programs to help you out, try IDHS website it also provides lots of programs of assistance. Depending what town your in check your town website, you'll be surprised at how many services are offered at this time due to the economy and all the job losses. Good Luck.

you say you already applied for food assistance and not sure what you did but there is a group, Angel Ministries, that puts together food every month. they accept Link card and money of course. :) I plan to call about it but things always get away from me. it is not just for those needing assistance. You can see their idea behind it on the website and see if there is a location near you. angelfoodministries.com Maybe it will help. good luck

Hi There. I know it's been tough out there for any unions. My husband is a union Plumber & he was laid off for 9 months in 2008. I'm hanging in there & know how hard it is. While he was out of work he was collecting unemployment & helping out with our children. I worked for a vehicle dealer & was laid off in October. (due to the economy) I was wondering how you get accepted for food assistance? We also made a financial decision to file bankrupcy. That took place in our lives in July of 2008. It helped us a great deal. This year will get better & I thank god the men are part of a union & it will get stronger & work will come available. Please, if for any advise you can talk to a laywer & they can give you both excellent advise & information of what to do. Also, the morgage company can be some help if contacted every week. Hang in there, cause it does get better. K. W.

If you don't already have this, you can get your families healthcare from the state through FamilyCare and All Kids - apply on line at www.allkids.com You should also apply for temporary assistance for needy families(cash assistance) and LIHEAP for utility assistance. We all pay our taxes in the good days so these things are there for us in the not so good days. Also ask the case worker in your local assistance office if there are any other programs that your family qualifies. Good luck.
