What a great decision to rescue! Congratulations!
I've had success at the PetSmart puppy obedience class. The one I went to was in IN, but I would hope that PetSmart would have consistent training.
Best of luck!
We recently rescued a 3 year old cocker spaniel....sweet dog, but apparently his previous owners had not trained him at all. Has anyone attended obedience training classes in Fairfax/Chantilly/Reston area that they'd recommend? OR any that were a waste of time and money? I'm up for either group or private lessons (you can give me your thoughts on that too). Thanks.

Check out Bark Busters http://www.barkbusters.com/ They come to your house and work with you on specific issues. If you've watched The Dog Whisperer, similar idea. And they guarantee your dogs behavior. Well worth the investment!
K.,
I don't think it is a waste of time, I think it is an investment. I have a terrible yorkie, still not well housetrained but I don't regret any of the 3 dog obedience classes we had. The one I enjoyed most is in Fairfax Station, near Ox Rd (rt 123).

The first one I attended was at Nativity Church on Old keene Mill rd parking lot on saturdays afternoons, I couldn't find their contact info. It was the most stressful but the one we learned the most.
If you want/need a groomer that comes to your home in a van, I know a great one and not too expensive, her name is Kristin ###-###-####)
Good luck,

The Animals House in Sterling is great! They offer group obedience classes at night and we had great success with our German Shepherd. The owner Kathy is fabulous. Worth every penny.
