Hi,
I am going to bring dinner to my friend this week. She just had a baby, and I am looking for some ideas on what to bring. Her diet is restricted and she can not have any dairy or nuts. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks. JD

How about some mild chili with bread or muffins? Chili is very healthy and the leftovers reheat well. Even one of those grocery rotisserie chickens with homemade sides would be good and provide sandwiches the next day. For fun you could also bring a bottle of the non-alcoholic sparkling cider to make their meal a little more special. I'm sure they will be thrilled with anything!

You could also cut up fruit or prepare bowls of salads. Basically anything you bring over that she doesn't have to prepare and can pull out of the fridge will be appreciated I'm sure!

Bringing families of newborns food is the BEST!!! I know I totally appreciated it when people did that for me. I always think that something like lasagna or a casserole - that can be frozen and reheated when needed is great. You can use soy-cheese instead of the real stuff to avoid dairy. I found some good recipes in Moosewood cookbooks for casseroles.

When my daughter was first born, a friend brought over a big salad with tons of veggies, soup and cornbread. Yum! I think you tend to get a lot of casseroles, or freezable items, so something that was "fresh" was really nice. Not to say I didn't appreciate the frozen stuff either - it was a lifesaver!!! But for some reason the soup/salad/bread meal was the most memorable.
