Hi K.! I think you are talking about the book The Very Hungry Capterpillar - by Eric Carle - one of my all time favs, too!
I know this is going to sound crazy, but as a child, my parents used to read me a book that I can't remember the name of. What I specifically remember about the book is that it was either a worm or a caterpillar that was represented by a string running from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. I think he ate his way through food until the end? But I can't remember the story line... if anyone can help with this obscure issue, please let me know!
thanks
Even with my inaccurate description, someone came up with the correct title... It is Where is Willie Worm? But it seems that it is out of print, so if anyone has any suggestions of places that I might find one or has one that they would like to sell, please let me know! Thanks again for all your help!

It seems like maybe it's out of print, because I can find references to it, but nothing new.
Amazon.com says they have a couple used.
Willie was a string (ours was green) and it ran through holes in the book. I actually have a picture of me reading it to my younger brother. I just checked the title. :)
The Very Hungry Caterpillar doesn't actually have a string, just holes. Where is Willie Worm? Has the string AND the holes.
