Looking for Childcare in Arlington

Hi Moms! I am looking for either a home child-care setting or daycare. I need your help in finding one. My daughter is 16 months old and has been in an in-home childcare setting for over a year. She did very well but the lady is moving to another town. I have looked at both settings and things I have seen have hugely scared me. (20 kids in a class and no teacher) (Walked into a daycare and all I could find were kids, no adults until I went to the back. I could have easily taken a child.) (One home, extremely unsafe. Children sleeping 5 feet fromlong electrical outlet with cords everywhere. Push pins that stuck out from wall above the crib in childs reach)
My daughter has been doing "your baby can read" She is very smart & social. She reads and says the word aloud, talks over 100 words, talks in some sentences, repeats what you say also. Knows some of her letters and numbers. Nothing is forced, she loves learning. I don't want her to just be baby sat. Some childcare people have told me "they just aren't doing much at that age. So I just let them scribble. Children are smarter than that. I believe children learn through play also. I want her to be taught a curriculum. I want her well rounded. Learning, reading, learning social skills. Healthy meals and a safe environment are important too. Christian environment is a plus too. Please let me know of a place!!
We live in South West Arlington. I-20 and Bowman Springs. I work in North West Arlington off of Randol Mill. We have been driving to South Cooper by Walmart for the last year and it was fine. Willing to drive. Husband works in Ft Worth off of I-20. We share in taking and picking her up.

What can I do next?

My kids go to Alpha Omega PreSchool off of Little Road. My son started when he was 3 months old (he is 7 now) and my daughter still attends. They are great. They have the same teachers now as they did when we started 7 years ago. No turnover and they are all adults, no teens watching your kids. It is a small school, probably about 25 kids total attend. They don't just baby sit either, they learn. Shaun Miller is the owner and their # is ###-###-####. Good luck!

I have a home day care but probably too far for you. I think most kids are not ready and until they start to control fine motor skills you can not teach them until they are ready but your child is ready. I have two kids in my day care ready. One boy and one girl. I know years ago my friend sat a child who went on walks in our women neighborhood and he sang all sorts of songs, knew his colors and all sorts of things. She worked with him and I do not believe while they are in care that we can just do not feed their minds and we all need nurtured. The more they learn now the better school will be. I was a slow learner and it was not until about 5 yrs I went to College online. I loved it. Over the years I got into Amway which suggests reading self improvement books every night before bed because we digest reading better then. First 15 min a night. The books were so exciting that soon I was reading more and more and spent a day or so ready getting a full book done. I used to read outloud or I could not understand what I was reading. Then by doing it I became a speed reader. Keep it up and do not settle for anyone that will not work with her and you. If the facility is unsafe they need to be reported so the state. That is why we are all regulated and it is easy maybe to not see it when they are there day in and out. I have talked to home day care people who teach nothing. They just sit. My children have play time outside time and we always go through a learning lesson of some kind. Even 15 min to half hour during the day as the little ones do not hold attention long. I remember when my son left home and I thought ok no did I teach him not to put a hair dryer in a sink with water? Big fears came accross me.So we learn safety in different forms. We practice daily letters, colors counting and such. Every time a child brings me a toy I ask questions is it hard or soft, what color is it, what do you call it. Children learn by us giving them the words to learn. So good luck. G. W

Hi V.,

I don't have any specific recommendations, but it sounds like you may have found a niche for a new business. Maybe you could provide child-care for gifted infants and toddlers, incorporating Christian values!

Good luck to you and God Bless!

We love Little Shepherd off Lamar Blvd. near the Whole Foods. They don't have a formal curriculum, but my son was well-prepared for kindergarten when the time came. The student-teacher ratio is small and the teachers are great about working with your child. My 3-year-old talks about their science experiments, the letters they're learning, etc. They focus on specific themes each month and do lots of projects around them. The director is Cathy Racette and their # is ###-###-####. The school has a low turnover rate and the kids love their teachers. My husband and I feel blessed to have found them.

I totally recommend Children's University on Park Springs, BUT they only start there at 2 y/o. I hope you can find something in the meantime, but check them out for sure.

We worked with Belinda Thomas ####-###-####. She is off of Silo Road in S Arlington. She is a good Christian woman with a good family. She homeschooled all three of her children. We still use her daughters to babysit. She tries to work with the kids to teach them instead of plopping them down in front of the television.
