So What Happened?

Thank you for all your ideas, they were a big help. I have decided to go with the jumping room and a quick craft of making a necklace with foam beads.

We tried to do fun things at parties and found that the kids just loved the simple things. We got a roll of paper, any large paper would do (or even taping multiple pieces together) and put it on the table with crayons. They drew and had a fabulous time. We cut it up and sent their drawings home with them.

Pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs. Also a pinatta is very fun. When my daughter was little we used to make a craft at her parties and that was very entertaining for the kids. Good luck.

Hi L.,

Something I did with one of daughters parties (17 years ago) was get some large size boxes. TV size or Microwave size (I got mine at Meijers) and painted them different colors. I put door holes so they can go in and out of them and also put cut windows with a rope and button knots so they can open and close them. I then put pictures of each of the kids that will be at the party. They were all family members so I had quite a few and I also put pictures of animals, and their parents. They had to go into the houses and pick their pictures off the walls (they were stuck with tape. This was one of the best games that we had ever had for them to play. They actually played in those boxes most of the party and she still had them for quite a while after wards. (we had 4 boxes and all in primary colors. Good luck and have fun making them if you choose to play it.

I would recommend Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Musical Chairs, Hot Potato (pass the ball, stuffed animal, anything) and maybe even a very simple outdoor obstacle course. At age 3 I don't recommend doing "prizes" but instead just play for fun. So for instance with musical chairs & Hot Potato when they get out you could either let them push the bottom/decide when to stop the music, and/or give them all a small treat when they get out. This way getting out is just as good as staying in.
I can probably come up with more if I knew more about when the birthday is or the party theme.
Hope that helps!

At our 3rd birthday we did a pinata, but really just let the kids play. Next birthday we are doing a cupcake table (I know it will be a mess, but if it is outside it wont be that bad). I will make the cupcakes, severl different color icings, and then have sprinkles, and different candies and cereals to decorate them. kids love making things and they love cake! If you have the money and the space, have you thought about renting a bounce house? Kids love jumping around!

Have a great party!

A couple thing that kids love:

1. A peanut hunt - if the weather is nice, throw peanuts all over the yard. Then give each kid a lunch bag to go on a peanut hunt. The kids love it and what they don't find will go to the squirrels!

2. Get a large sheet and have all the kids grab hold of it on the edges. The put a stuffed animal in the middle and then let the kids shake the sheet up and down trying to bounce the animal off. They love it! Keeps all the kids busy at the same time, keeps them physically active and they will laugh so hard. They will want to keepp doing this about 100 times!

My daughter's favorite game was a treasure hunt that we set up in our backyard. We hid seashells from Oriental Trading Co. (totally cheap) all over the backyard and had the kids take their gift bag and go around and find seashells. They all pretty much thought it was the coolest thing when they found a shell. They would announce it to everyone. You can order a ton of them and then every kid gets to find 10 or 15 shells.
Good luck. E.

Try familyfun.com. They have a lot of great party ideas.

At my son's 3rd birthday party, the kids had more fun just running around and playing with some toys.

Good luck, have fun, and don't stress!!!

I always do a present hunt and until they can read, I always drew a picture of where their next clue is and then when they get to the end, the presents for the kids are all in the last spot. Like I might draw and picture of a bed and then the clue under the bed would be a picture of a certain toy. The kids have always loved it at my house. As they grow older, you can get more creative on the clues.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE ALREADY HAD THE PARTY OR NOT BUT A FUN GAME WE PLAYED AS KIDS WAS YOU MAKE TWO TEAMS ONE BOYS TEAM AND ONE GIRLS TEAM. TAKE ADULT CLOTHES FOR THE GIRLS A DRESS, PURSE, HIGH HEELSAND A HAT. AND FOR THE BOYS A PAIR OF WORK PANTS A HARD HAT A FLANNEL AND SOME BOOTS. PUT THE CLOTHES ACROSS THE ROOM AND WHEN YOU SAY GO THE KIDS HAVE TO RUN OVER TO THE PILE OF CLOTHES PUT THEM ON OVER THERE CLOTHES AND RUN BACK TAKE THEM OFF AND THE NEXT TEAM MATE PUTS THEM ON. THAT GOES ON UNTIL YOU HAVE ONE GROUP THAT FINISHES FIRST. HOPE I AM NOT TOO LATE

I found it hard to have many "games" with my 3 yr olds. We did a sand bag toss (home made by grandma), and a pinata, and a craft. That is about it. The kids just wanted to run around most of the time and not play anything organized. My daughter is 4 this week and I am looking too for games for her.

Thanks for asking. Sorry I probably wasn't much help. Best of luck with the party. :-)

I would suggest a pinata. I had one at my 3 y/o daughter's birhtday party and the kids that were there loved it. The pinata had pull strings instead of beating it with a baseball. Another game we played was pin the tail on the donkey, again we used tails that were velcro and the kids seemed to like it. Hope it helps! I'm sure no matter what though, she'll love her birthday party!

my daughter had a tinkerbell party- so we had the following games/activities:
a coloring contest,
played pin the star on tinkerbells wand (ie pin the tail on the donkey),
pass the wand (where they all sit in a circle and pass the wand around until the music stops, whoever has it is out until all kids are eliminitated. last one wins),
and musical chairs
----good luck!!----
